Hi I'm Michael

I'm from Bakersfield, California. I teach people how to use computers. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been working with computers for years. I've worked in support, network administration, security, process improvement; and I now I teach others how to do these same things. My wife and I have been married for over 20 years and we have five children - including 1-yr-old twins! I love working with and helping other people. That's probably the thing I like most about my job - helping people accomplish things they didn't think they could (or at least didn't know how they would). I like to travel (especially because it gives me opportunities to meet other people) and have visited most of the countries in Central and South America

Why I am a Mormon

My membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and my understandng of the Gospel of Jesus Christ provides meaning and direction to my life. Because of my understanding of our Heavenly Father's plan, I am better able to face the trials and difficulties that come with this life. By having a clear perspective of what things are of real importance, it helps me not get caught up or lost in seeking material possessions or worldly pleasures. Instead, I focus my efforts on those things that will bring lasting joy - like my family, and my relationship with my Savior. Knowing what Jesus did for me because of His great love makes me want to strive harder to do those things he taught, like loving my neighbor as myself and putting God before all else. As I keep Heavenly Father's commandments, and strive to serve those around me, I can see and feel the blessings that the Lord sends into my life. The Lord answers my prayers and directs my paths when I seek Him and strive to do His will; and I know he will do the same for you.

How I live my faith

The Church provides so many ways to learn, grow and develop - both individually and as a community. It starts with trying my best to live the Gospel in my personal life. This means always trying to do what the Savior would want me to do. It includes regularly studying the scriptures and praying for the Lord's guidance and help, attending worship services, and working with my wife to try to teach our children the Gospel and help them live by the standards and values the Lord would want them to. Additionally, I've had many opportunities in the Church to work with other people. As a "home teacher" I visit other families and share a Christ-centered message in their homes each month. I've been involved as a youth leader and have also trained other youth leaders. I spent some time working with inmates at a local jail. This was particularly fulfilling as I watched them make changes in their lives and experience the effects and the blessings that come through the atonement of Jesus Christ. My service in the Church has made me a better person - it helps me see others with a different perspective as I recognize each individual as a choice son or daughter of a loving Heavenly Father; and it helps me treat others the way a child of God deserves to be treated.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Michael
My oldest son is actually in Mexico serving as a full-time missionary right now. In order to do this, he saved money from the time he was very small. For the last eight months before he left, he forewent school for a while and worked full-time so that he would have enough money saved to be able to pay for all of his expenses for the next two years. I did the same thing 25 years ago, which allowed me to support myself while I served for two years as a misisonary in Puerto Rico. Show more Show less
