Hi I'm Stephan

I worked for Mickey Mouse, lived in Germany, Switzerland and France, love my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like challenges. My parents taught me anything is possible. After growing up in Wisconsin the son of a German immigrant, I lived in Germany and attended German schools. After moving back to the U.S., I was a nerd in high school, yet played volleyball, soccer and wrestled in high school. Piano and singing are two closet passions. In college, I played NCAA soccer. I met my wife on a blind date in college. After graduate school, I worked in California where I learned to find peace near the ocean and the mountains. Our family vacations usually involve trips to a beach or the mountains. After working for Mickey Mouse, I've been a serial entrepreneur starting four companies. Marriage has been awesome, I have 4 great kids, and I love being with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the gospel. My dad's family joined the church in East Germany. I remember God answering my prayer as a young boy lost in the woods. I knew he was real and loved me. When I was baptized at age 8, I felt clean - I knew that baptism was important and powerful. As a teenager, I felt the spirit when I was at church or involved in serving others. Living the gospel kept me from making bad choices that might have taken me down a crooked path. As a college student, I prayed more fervently to know if God had restored His church on earth. I rejoiced with the answer I received. An answer as real as anything else I've ever experienced. It changed my life. I found my wife because of prayer. Over the years, the more I studied the gospel, the more I've come to love the gospel. Answers and more answers, real help to guide me and motivate me to change my life. My marriage is better, and my family is blessed. In times of real trials, I've felt the Holy Ghost guide me. I'm a Mormon because of the joy the gospel brings into my life. I don't know how people live without the gospel.

How I live my faith

A great aspect of the gospel is everyone gets a calling to serve. We learn by doing. God sent us on earth to develop attribute that He has. We can start to become like Him when we put gospel principles into practice. The callings I've enjoyed the most are being with the teenagers. I learn a lot by preparing lessons to teach. Everyone is busy, but when you make time to serve, it brings great joy. I love starting my day with prayer, writing in my journal and reading my scriptures. It brings the spirit into my life. Serving has brought about gradual changes in me. I can look back and see real change - and that makes me happy. I have much further to go to become who I should be, but I'm enjoying the journey.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Stephan
Some people place labels on things they don't understand. I have yet to meet a person not of our faith who, once they took the time to investigate the gospel, didn't change their opinion to one of respect. Over the years, I've encountered people with strong opinions about our church who really knew very little about what the church teaches. Maybe they heard an opinion from someone else and they adopted it without really investigating. A true christian loves truth and seeks after truth. When Jesus was on the earth, he didn't put down other religions - I don't understand why today some put down other religions. We believe in Jesus Christ. We believe in God. We believe in the same doctrines Jesus taught when He lived on the earth. Show more Show less
