Hi I'm Christy

I'm a wife, a mother of two, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as the oldest of 5 children in a small Arizona town. After high school, I attended college in Utah and served as a missionary for 18 months in the Washington DC area. After graduating with a degree in business, I spent the next 9 years working in information technology for a large consulting firm and later for a financial services company. I met and married my husband when I was in my late 20s, and after my oldest son was born a few years later I began a new career as a full-time mom. I now spend my days as a mom to my 6-year old and 1-year old boys. I love to travel, run, read, take pictures, and capture our family's memories.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in an LDS home and was taught from an early age that I am a child of God. I have never doubted that fact and have felt God's love for me confiming this throughout my life. I was taught from the scriptures - both the Bible and the Book of Mormon - and attended church each Sunday. But even with this, there came a time when I had to know for myself if everything I had been taught was really true. When I was 16 years old, we had been studying the Book of Mormon in seminary (a daily scripture study class for LDS youth held in addition to regular high school curriculum), and I decided that I would pray to know for myself if the Book of Mormon was truly another testament of Jesus Christ. Shortly thereafter when we were studying the final teachings and testimonies of Christ from some of the Book of Mormon prophets, I was overcome with a feeling that these men were not just characters in a nice story but actual people who had lived and left their knowledge of Jesus Christ as a witness for us today. I had not ever doubted this, but at this point I knew that it was true. As I have continued to grow in my faith over the years, I have found this witness to be continually confirmed. I know that God is the father of all who loves his children and wants them to be happy. I know he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to provide a way for all of us to return to him. I know he has a plan for each of us. This plan is what I've found in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it's why I'm a Mormon today.

How I live my faith

I've found that I am happiest in my life when I am doing the best I can to have faith and be like Christ. I pray and read from the scriptures each day as doing these simple things help guide me through both the big and small challenges of daily living. I pray with my family and we read from the scriptures daily with our young son as we teach him of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Within the church I have been given many opportunities to serve others, and I currently work with the young women in our congregation who are between the ages of 12 and 18. We meet together on Sunday for lessons and also meet for an activity outside of our usual church services each week. I love spending time with these girls and find that I often learn as much or more from them as they do from me. In my interactions with those around me I try to be honest and kind and reflect the kind of life that would be expected from one who follows Christ. On a more personal level, I live my faith by choosing to be optimistic and hopeful for the future as I trust in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
