Hi I'm Shane

I was born and raised Halifax. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, husband and father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as an Engineer for a local company, currently doing work for the Canadian Navy. I'm a naturally curious person and love working with my hands. Not much makes me happier than getting my hands dirty fixing up my house, my car or some crazy project like building my own arc-welder from recycled microwaves. I have a wife, a son and dog and we love spending time outside. Whether we're going for a long walk or going camping, we're sure to have a fun time. I also enjoy a variety of other activities like practicing Brazilian Jujitsu, playing music, playing board games, reading and sports.

Why I am a Mormon

I was very young when my mother joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and really can't remember a time that I didn't attend church regularly. As a teenager I naturally started to wonder if I actually believed what I had been taught while I was growing up. While attending a youth camp sponsored by the church and as part of a fireside we were singing a song called "We'll Bring the World His Truth". While I was singing I was overcome with the most amazing feeling of peace and I knew that I had found the answer to my questions. Since then I've continued to have many spiritual experiences that remind me of the truths I've learned and have come to cherish. I have learned, through experience, that I am a happier person when I live the teachings of Jesus Christ and that I am blessed for doing so. The apostle Paul spoke of "...a more excellent way" and I believe that the fullness of that way was restored to the earth by a prophet named Joseph Smith. Today, God continues to reveals His will and guidance to the world through His prophet Thomas S. Monson. When I listen to him speak, I have those same feelings of peace I felt as a teenager when I sang about bringing "the World His Truth".

How I live my faith

Since gaining a personal witness of Christ's teachings, I have tried to help others to come to the same knowledge I have. This included being a full time missionary for the church for two years serving the Cambodian people in Massachusetts. I volunteered with the youth organization in our church locally and throughout the province. More recently I have been working closely with the local missionaries who are teaching people who are curious about our faith. Just as important as sharing the gospel with the world is ensuring the gospel is being taught in my home. I strive daily to be a good example to my son and to be a better husband to my wife.
