Hi I'm Daniel Brett Stark

I've grew up in Auburn, Alabama, I love playing music, I hate Kenny G, I love Star Wars, I love history/politics. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to play the saxophone. A few of my favorite artists are David Sanborn, John Coltraine, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Coldplay, Queen, Bach, Holst, and not Kenny G. I wish the world would just have a little more jazz in it since that's just about the best music in the universe. I love music theory and enjoy learning about how music works as well as playing it myself. I'm a history/political science buff and have spent many hours in my room reading about such things. I love Star Wars. They're some of the best movies ever created and certainly my personal favorties. I plan to go to college to become a professor, but in exactly what I do not yet know. I love scouting. It's super fun. I earned my Eagle Scout award just before I turned 19. I've actually been on two 50 mile hikes in the Appalacian Mountains. They were super fun yet super painful. I was craving a burger by the end of it. And, of corse, I'm a mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because I've been able to feel the spirit of God so strongly in the church. I've had many an appiffany while reading my scriptures. In fact, I've recently realized that I gained a testemony when my parrents read children's scriptures to me as a child. Such a strong feeling as a child prompted me to read all the Book of Mormon, Bible, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price through and through at an early age. Furthermore, I would listen to dramatized scriptures for hours at a time because I loved them so much. I've come to know that through the scriptures I've received a testemony. Furthermore, whenever I pray I can always feel that there's always someone who's listening to me in a loving way. I can always feel that God cares about what I'm saying when I pray even if I don't necissarily get an answer immedeatly. I've been able to see God put me in so many different places and help me in so many different ways throughout my life it's hard to count. I find that whenever I put God first I can always see more blessings in my life, both temporal and spiritual.

How I live my faith

Currently, I'm serving a full time mission at the Michigan Detroit mission. I definetly think it's the best mission in the world, but I may be a little bit biased. While serving as a missionary it's just so cool to see all the people come closer to God and live their lives in a better way. I've certainly come closer to God and others as my time as a missionary than at any other time.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Daniel Brett Stark
Mormon missionaries proselite because it brings so many people come closer to Christ and live their lives in a way that they could not even imagine befoe. Being a full time missionary myself, I have seen this at firsthand experience. There are so many people who's lives have been miraculously changed due to learning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, spreading the word of Christ is a comandment given from him. Christ wills that all his children be saved through him, and a big part of that is going out of your way to give it to them. What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Daniel Brett Stark
The scriptures have been some of the greatest blessing I have ever received in my life. I gained my knowlage of God through reading the scriptures and coming to know that they are true. The scriptures are the roadmap to life. I have thouroghly read the scriptures all my life and I have no doubt in my mind that there is not a single question anyone can ask in life that cannot be answered by the word of God. As we read the scriptures every day we find that there is an increased 'spirit' in our lives. That spirit is the spirit of God leading and guiding us in our lives. Because we 'draw near unto him' by reading our scriptures he is able to 'draw near unto us'. It is important to read and understand all scriptures: The Bible (Old and New Testement), the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Peral of Great Price. God gave each and every one of these Books to us for a reason and we must study dilligently out of all of them. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Daniel Brett Stark
The purpose of life is to come Closer to Jesus Christ and become perfected through him. In his great intercessory prayer Christ does summarize the grand purpose of life: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3) There's another scripture that illistrates the purpose of life, but it's more on the lines of what God's purpose is. He said, "Behold, this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39) Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Daniel Brett Stark
It is absolutely true that Christ came to the Americas after his crucifixion. He says in John 10:16-"And other sheep I have that are not of this fold. Them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepard." Christ says himself that he was refering to his lost sheep in the Americas. Ulitmetly, to know if this is true, we must receive a spiritual witness about the Book of Mormon itself. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Daniel Brett Stark
The purpose of the temple is to perform saving ordinances. These ordinances are either covenants you make to God to follow him more perfectly in your life or covenants that bind a family to be able to live together forever. We and our families only go through these ordinances once for ourselves, but we can go through the temple many, many times to be able to perform such ordinances for those who have not had the opprotunity to do so. Furthermore, the temple is one of the best places on earth for us to receive revelation from God. There's a specail spirit there that cannot be immitated anywhere else. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Daniel Brett Stark
The main people who wrote the Book of Mormon were Nephi, Jacob, Enos, Mormon, and Moroni. There are a few more minor authors. The Book of Mormon was written through those men as they were moved upon by the power of the Holy Ghost. Thus, the Book of Mormon is the literal word of God and the fullness of the everlasting gospel. It was translated through Joseph Smith by the power of God. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Daniel Brett Stark
Mormon missionaries will first share the message they have of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In summary they'll share how after centuries of being lost God called a prophet named Joseph Smith to restore the fullness of his gospel in its complete truth. We can know this for ourselves by reading another book of scripture called The Book of Mormon. The next lesson they'll come teach is The Plan of Happiness which is about where we lived before this life, what our purpose is for living here on this earth, and what happens to us when we die. The next part of the message they'll share is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel talks about having faith in Jesus Christ, repenting, being baptized, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the end. Finally, they'll talk with you about different comandments our Heavenly Father has instructed us to observe. Those comandments include the Law of Chastity, the Law of Tithing, the Word of Wisdom, fasting, and giving fast offerings. Show more Show less

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Daniel Brett Stark
There is a famous Chinese Proverb that illistrates the grand purpose of the welfare program: "If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime". A huge reason for the church's welfare program is to help others be able to 'fish' for themselves. There are many people that were born in unfortunate circumastances and for reasons beyond their own control, they may not be able to, or at least may not be very good at, fishing for themselves. The welfare program provides the education and assistance people need to get on their feet and be able to provide for themselves, their family, and for the community around them. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Daniel Brett Stark
If you break down the word 'atonement' you'll find out that the prase says, 'at-one-ment'. The atonement is what helps us be able to change ourselves from our fallen and more wicked state into a state that becomes more and more like God. Jesus Christ was the only person who could have sacrificed himself because he was (and still is) the only perfect being who ever walked upon the earth. Because he sacrificed himself we have the opprotunity to be able to live like him and become like him. It's the greatest gift that ever has or ever will be given to mankind. Show more Show less

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

Daniel Brett Stark
Latter Day Saints very much beleive in the sanctity of life and therefore oppose abortion with the rare exception of the life of the mother possibly being in danger or in the case that the pregnancy may have been caused by rape. Everyone deserves a chance to come to this earth and by having an abortion one does take someone's choice away from them. It is important to remember that we all are God's children, whether or not we have been born yet. Show more Show less
