Hi I'm Katie

I grew up in Texas but now live in Michigan. I use to teach and coach soccer. Now I am a proud Mom and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 26 years old, married with one little two month old boy. I am the fourth oldest out of six children. I grew up in Texas and miss the warm weather. I graduated from college in PE teaching and coaching and currently reside in Michigan. I hate the cold, but when your husband finds a job in this economy you take it where you can get it, even if it is Michigan(kind of ironic isn't it). I do love the people here though, just not the weather. I love sports, especially soccer and volleyball. I also enjoy music. I play the piano and love to sing. I also love old movies. My favorite old actors/actresses are Jimmy Stuart, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Gene Kelley, Judy Garland: I really could go on and on. I also love to read and watch british dramas, especially Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell adaptations. I love to laugh and love it when others make me laugh, probably one of the things that first attracted me to my husband-he always makes me laugh.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of this church. When I was thirteen years old I wanted to know if what I was being taught was true. I wanted to find out for myself and not have to rely on someone else's beliefs or testimony. So I did what Joseph Smith did and what other prophets and apostles have counseled us to do: I prayed and asked God if this was His true church and if what I was being taught was true. I remember as I did so that my heart began to swell in my chest and my eyes began to water. I felt different like my heart could not be contained in my chest, like it was literally on fire. I then recognized it as the Holy Ghost bearing witness to me that this church is truly Jesus Christ's true church on the earth. As I got to be about sixteen, I was reading the Book of Mormon and wanting to feel that same assurance that I felt that day when I was thirteen. I had doubts at times and that night I remember having some doubts and not being sure if what I read was true. I wanted to know with an absolute surety that the Book of Mormon was true. So I went and prayed and asked my Heavenly Father in Jesus Christ's name if the Book of Mormon was true. As I did, the same exact burning feeling came to me again and I could not contain the tears. I knew that the Book of Mormon was truly the word of God and that the Holy Ghost had just born witness to me of its truthfulness. These experiences are just two of many that I have had in my life so far as I have read, pondered, and prayed to know if this is church is true. I want you to know that I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is our Saviors only true church on the earth. That we are led by a living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson and Apostles. That the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible are the word of God. That Joseph Smith did restore Christ's church to the earth for these last days. And that by the power of the Holy Ghost you can know for yourself if these things are true.

How I live my faith

Every day I try to live my life the way the Lord wants me to. Everyday is not perfect, in fact far from it. Often days are challenging and trying my faith every day. But, as I strive harder to stay closer to my Savior, learn more of Him, and reach out to others I find I can make it through with His help and guidance. I currently work with the youth, more specifically with the young women, in my local church or ward. I love being able to interact with them and help them learn how to gain a testimony for themselves. The youth of this church are so amazing to me as I see how strong, valiant, and courageous they are. They are often great examples to me as I see how they deal with the challenges of life on a daily basis, especially when at school. Teaching at local schools I know the kind of pressure, temptation, and adversity that these teens are going through and salute them for their integrity, honesty, and faithfulness. I also have a few women in the ward who I try to visit and share a message of Christ with them every month. This experience really helps us gain a closer bond and friendship with each other as we both learn more about each other, about our Savior, and our Heavenly Father's plan for us. I also recently was asked to play the organ during Sacrament meeting. This has a been a challenge and a blessing in my life as I have had to learn and continue to learn how to play the organ, to overcome my fears of playing in front of others, and a blessing as I've been able to improve in my piano playing. I have come to realize how much the Lord loves us and wants us to develop our talents.
