Hi I'm Dave

I am a convert to the church of 38 years. I grew up in a small town in California and joined the church after moving to Arizona.

About Me

I am a father of six children and grandfather of 19 grandchildren. I have worked as a cowboy, farrier, insurance salesman and in truss manufacturing. I am a college graduate and a college all american in track & field. My hobbies are: family, handyman, genealogy, college athletics & giving service.

Why I am a Mormon

My background comes from California where I was born in Mojave, California and raised in Tehachapi, California. My Father had a cattle ranch 30 miles West of Lancaster, California and also another cattle ranch between Tehachapi and Mojave in the Tehachapi Mountains. Tehachapi was a small town about 40 miles East of Bakersfield, California. Because my Dad had always been in the cattle business, I was naturally around cowboys my entire life. I heard them talk about the Mormons many times on roundups or when working. My father bought a cattle ranch in Arizona in 1961. I was married in 1968 and my wife and I moved to manage the ranch for my Dad. The ranch was 2 ½ townships in size or about 82,000 acres with a permit for 650 mother cows. Very little could be done with jeeps because there were very few roads so most everything had to be done on horseback. This is where we started molding our lives together. After several of life's problems at the ranch I left the ranch on horseback early one morning. I got a strong impression to pray. I had only gone about 150 feet when I got a burning feeling in my stomach like a hot poker and it hit me with such force that I dropped the reins and grabbed the saddle horn. I looked up at the cloud and every color of the rainbow appeared brilliantly in the cloud and then it disappeared. I knew at that moment that there was a Heavenly Father who loved me and did answer prayer. After about 3 weeks I decided to pray again when I was out on horseback. The best way I can describe it is having been doused in gasoline and having been set on fire. I heard a voice and it said to me “Involve yourself with the Mormons”. This was the last answer I thought I would ever receive because of my understanding of the Mormons. This came with such love that I knew it was true and that it came from God. My membership in the church has been a wonderful blessing in my life.

How I live my faith

I have had many wonderful experiences over the past 38 years as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have had many opportunities to serve in the church and community. I have been a member of a school board, and worked on many other community committee's during these years. I have had the opportunity to work with the youth in scouting and with young women. I have served as a Bishop and been a trainer in the Family History Center in our community. I have also had the opportunity to work in many welfare projects in the community and for the church.
