Hi I'm Stephen

I'm a musician, a bicyclist, and a student. I love tinkering with computers, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Music is one of the most dominant forces in my life.. I play piano, organ, percussion, recorder, and I sing bass. I played in my high school's marching band for two years, and during my senior year I was the drumline captain. I love listening to a variety of music, from Mozart and Beethoven to movie soundtracks, The Piano Guys, and Lindsey Stirling. I also love computers; I use a desktop computer that I built myself running a less-known free operating system called Ubuntu. I love to tinker with my computer, and just about anything else that needs fixing or improving. I am starting college to become a computer engineer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, raised by parents with a sound understanding of the Gospel and the scriptures. My testimony is not as strong as I'd like it to be, but I am confident in declaring that I believe in Jesus Christ. When I see how beautiful and well-ordered this universe is, I remember God's hand in creating it. When I read the Scriptures, go to church, or discuss the Gospel with others, I am reassured that good works bring blessings. It is a constant comfort to me that the pain that we experience in this world will all be healed through the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that we can always turn to Him for strength and hope in our times of trial.

How I live my faith

Since I recently moved away from home to go to college, I'm not yet fully settled in to my new ward, but so far I have enjoyed taking part in a variety of ward activities. I sing bass in the ward choir and regularly attend ward activities throughout the week. I was recently called to be a ward missionary, a person that helps our full-time missionaries find people who want to learn more about our church. I also visit a few men in our ward monthly with my brother to offer support or assistance whenever they need it.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Stephen
The Church encourages service for all our fellow men. In the Book of Mormon, King Mosiah teaches that "when [we] are in the service of [our] fellow beings [we] are only in the service of [our] God." (Mosiah 2:17). We believe in helping all others who need our help, just as Christ did. A prominent feature of our church organization is a support network for our fellow members, but we are equally responsible to help those we know who do not unite with our church. We believe that God is concerned with the welfare of all men, not just Mormons, so we seek to offer our help wherever and whenever it is needed. Show more Show less
