Hi I'm John

I am a husband and father. I am a decendant of some early members and pioneers. I am a BYU graduate. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Southern Oregon and left to go to BYU. While in school i transfered from a Computer Science degree to one in Professional Boy Scouting. After graduating in 2006 i moved to Washington to work for the Boy Scouts of America for a few years. I am an Eagle Scout. After working for the Boy Scouts i now work 2 very different jobs. I work for an outdoor equipment retailer and as an IT consultant. In my IT career i am a Microsoft Certified Windows Specialist working with small businesses. As an outdoor enthusiast i manage inventory for an store foucused on the outdoors. I married my wife in 2008 in the Portland Oregon Temple. We have a perfect toddler who does all the things toddlers do. He gets into things and plays with his blocks. He likes to play with his cousin and friends. We are working with and teaching him every day. He teaches us way more than we teach him. Him and my wife are the joy that i look forward to everyday.

Why I am a Mormon

The first obvious answer is because i was born a member of the church and my family has been part of the church since before the plates of Gold were translated. My family growing up went to church every week and my parents did a good job teaching me that you went to church and did not miss. At other times in my life i was Mormon because i did not have anything else better to be. I was part of the Church because it gave me identity. I had some friends that were members and it gave me opportunity to spend time with them. When i first started my college career i was Mormon because it made sense logically. Anthropologists were finding things in Central and South America that supported the stories i'd been taught out of the Book of Mormon. Science and History both showed me the Church had to be true. Logic did not follow that it could all be made up. It was while attending BYU that i became a member of the church for me. At first it was because of all the blessing i had in my life. I had plenty of great examples that showed me the happiness and joy of the Gospel. This is when i moved from knowing the Church was true to learning the Church is true. Today i am a Mormon because i have a testimony of the Prophets and the message of Christ they bring. I am a Mormon because it is what i want to be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through my family. I lead my family in Family Home Evening and study of the scriptures. I grow and learn so much each time i join my wife in temple work. Prayer, individually and with my family, are a strength and a guide that help me live my faith every day.
