Hi I'm Nancy

I am a writer, an artist, a snowboarder, a cancer survivor, a first grade teacher, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have enjoyed my career as a recreational therapist and now a first grade teacher. I am a wife and a step mother. I have been a foster mother and a host mom for exchange students. I have always loved the out doors. I grew up near the ocean and loved going to the beach even body surfing and bogie boarding. I love the mountains and I have skied for many years and snowboarded with my husband and step sons. We like to camp, hike, snorkle, and travel around the world when we can. I speak Chinese because I served a mission to Hong Kong many years ago. I loved to write, paint, cook and talk on the phone with good friends. I like to grow vegetables, flowers and I want to build my own waterfall. Family is very important to me and I enjoy talking to my mom on the phone or reading my dad's family letters or keeping up with my family members on facebook, or by phonecalls, or by occasional visits during the holidays. I have experienced life's up and downs and I am a breast cancer survivor of 20 plus years. I believe that life is meant to be enjoyed and that is one of my goals to try to make things fun even when we go through the hard times too. I love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always loved going to church and I felt a strong love there among the members. I listened to many testimonies and the testimonies of the members have touch my life and influenced me to choose good things throughout my life. I have had many experiences that made me want to continue attending church. I had prayers answered even as a youth when concerns came into my life. The gospel of Jesus Christ and his example in the scriptures helped me to know that His teachings are true and are there for me to help me become a better person. I love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints because I know it is Christ's church and through the His priesthood ordinances such as baptism, I become closer to my Father in Heaven. I love the spirit I feel by attending church and particularly in temple attendance. Through reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible I have grown closer to His teachings and I felt the Holy Ghost in my life. I am so thankful to have this peace in my life to get me through tough times. I know that through prayer I can have the Heavenly Guidance I need in my life. This is an incredible blessing in my life. I know that Heavenly Father loves all His Children and this helps me to love others more and be more complete in loving others. This is what I hope for all my family and friends to have this knowledge and peace and to be always learning to become better each day. I know that Jesus lives and He is my Savior and through Him anything is possible.

How I live my faith

Each day I start the day with a family prayer with my husband and my 3 teenagers. I think this is the only way to start the day before going off to work and school. It gives us a time to reflect what is really important and what really matters. It is a time to thank Him and ask Him for special blessings we might be in need of. On Sundays, I go to church with my family. There are many opportunities to serve there. In each meeting, I am uplifted and I hopefully have a chance to serve others too while I am there. I think my favorite calling at church is to serve in the primary because the children are so perfect and pure, and I love the children's songs of worship. I try to read my scriptures each day because if I do I know I will have a spiritual reservoir when times get tough. One of my favorite expressions is: "A dry well can not give water." The gospel of Jesus Christ is a path to true happiness and it is an eternal happiness that lasts forever and I am so happy to have this knowledge and make it applicable in my life.
