Hi I'm Anita Chow

I'm a Mormon. I am from Hong Kong and I love my church very much, nice to meet you!!

About Me

I am Anita Chow. I am currently serving as the Stake Young Women President, and I've been called to serve the youths for a very long time, eg. the seminary teacher and sunday school teacher for the youths, I love the church youths very much, they strengthened my testimony and also keep me young! I and my husband, Bill Shum met and married in the BYUH campus, we both love children, but for some reasons, we still do not have our own children yet, we believe there must be a purpose in Heaven. But we both love to serve the children and youths inside and outside of the church, and we always have a lot of opportunities to serve these precious children of God, we love them very much! I am working in a non-profit organization, House of Learning, and it was organized by a group of LDS and BYU alumnii. I am so grateful to run this organization and to serve a lot of underpriviledged but great children and families. We also go to China to serve the poor children there too. It is a really mind and eye opened experience!!! In leisure time, I love to listen to uplifting music, surfing the net and chatting with different people, doing different kind of services and I really love to make friends of every kind! I studied Social Work as my major in BYUH, I love to serve the society and my wish to make a difference to this world and so as to make it a better place for us to live! I love our church very much, it has been the greatest blessing in my life!

Why I am a Mormon

About 30 years ago, 2 foregin missionaries who did not speak very fluent Cantonese knocked at our door. They sincerely asked us if they could hold a Family Home Evening with our family. We welcome them to our home very quickly. It was because my father thought they were invited by his friend when he was staying beside him in the hospital. My father has been hosptalized and his friend told him that he would like to invite some people from his church to visit him one day, ans so my dad thought the missionaries were sent by him! But nevertheless, because of this little misunderstandings, we came to know the church, what a great blessing from our God! We love the Elders and their spirit really touched us! A lot of missionaries had taught our family, and loved every single one of them, we remember the last couples were two local sisters from Hong Kong, and one of them is still in Hong Kong and we meet very often. I always regard her as my greatest sister! One by one, our family baptized and became very active in the church. Though we had encountered a lot of challenges and adversities in these 30 years, eg. my father was handicapped and couldn't even take care of himself, he is now living in the elderly care hostile, I've been inactive when I was a young woman because I had no friends in church, our family economic had been a big burden, etc. But yet, we are all still become active in the church now. It is because the gospel has really blessed our lives so much, though my father has become handicapped, but he is now a very happy person, he is a very strong man and have a very positive attitude, his example has strengthened a lot of people, especially me! And the gospel has blessed me in many ways, it leads me to righteousness, to make the best choice in my life, and to stand firm and be able to resist bad temptations. Our father in Heaven really takes care of us and I greatly feel it especially when I feel down or upset.

How I live my faith

I am a Stake Young Women President, and I love my calling very much. I always plan and conduct a lot of youth activites for our stake youths, eg. Youth Conference, Standard Nite, Young women camping, etc. I love organizing these events and to be with our church youths, I feel the loving spirit of them and they are all very pure and righteous, I greatly feel that they are very chosen sons and daughters of God and to be sent to this earth in these days. It is such my honor to serve them and to see their growth. I love to listen to their sharing, their testimonies and to be with them, their energies and committments to be righteous people always moves and strengthens me a lot. I really love them! And in the community, because of my work and my interest, I always come to contact with a lot of children and youths too! I love being with them so much, and they are my treasure! Though we always meet those who are from low-income families, but they are very intelligent, hardworking and very pure in heart! By helping them to gain better knowledge and some learning skills, they are able to have better scores in schools, and this is our goal that knowledge can help them to get out from poverty! Service has been one of the main goals in our church and our prophet, Thomas Monson is a perfect example of service, by doing service, we are also glorifying our God in Heaven because we are letting our light so shine before men that they may see our good works! And moreover, when we are serving our fellowmen, we are serving our Lord in Heaven too! And by serving others, we are able to help a lot of people to live happier, to be able to have a better life and become more positive about their lives! I love my church very much and I love to serve both inside and outside of the church! They are all my sisters and brothers, and so we mush love one another!
