Hi I'm Selina

I'm a junior high math teacher. I'm a mother of two. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a first-year junior high math teacher. I am loving my career and being able to be with my kids more. I have two children that I adore, and a loving husband. I just finished my master's degree in May 2010, which is a huge accomplishment for me. I love to read, and often have to ban myself from reading to get any cleaning or work done. I love getting lost in a book, unfortunately as a mom that doesn't work so well. I collect postcards from places I have been and where my friends and family have gone. I love music and basically stick to singing. I enjoy to sewing, but hardly find the time to do it.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents that were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church. I grew up in an environment where I did what was expected of me. At the age of 8 I was getting baptised and my bishop commented that he was glad I had made the choice to become a member of the LDS church. At that moment I started to realize that this was my decision. A couple years later after having a friend that was Catholic, I started to wonder if I was part of God's Church or if I should be looking somewhere else. As that thought was passing through my mind a feeling came over me that seemed to say, you are where you belong this is the church you should be part of. Since then I have never doubted that this is God's Church and that I am following Him to the best of my abilities. Life certainly has not been easy, but I know the God loves me and that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know when life is hard I can turn to God and feel his comforting arms around me, it seems to make my burdens easier to bear.

How I live my faith

In the Church I have had a couple of opportunities to teach the 18 month to 3 year old children. This group is one many adults do not enjoy teaching, but I found that I loved the children and they have loving hearts. It helped me decide to pursue an Elementary Education degree. I am currently the Ward (congregation) Choir Director. I love music and getting to pick songs to sing is one of my favorites. The Ward Choir sings about once a month during the Sunday meeting, and special occasions like Christmas and Easter. The Ward Choir is available for all to participate in, you do not need to have any special musical talent. In addition I visit women in my Ward to see how they are doing and hopefully brighten their day a little. The reason we visit women in our Ward (congregation) is to make sure their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are taken care of. I feel, especially for women, having someone listen to you and your problems without giving advice is one of the best ways to keep emotionally sane. Men just do not understand what women need, but another woman can. This, also, helps you get to know people when you are new to an area. My husband and I have moved 7 times in the last 6 years, so having a support system in the Church helps you find friends and not feel so alone.
