Hi I'm Tom Garlock

I live in Orange county California, surf, volunteer as a Boy Scout Master. I work in development and construction. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a Dad of 3, 2boys and a girl. They are grown and mostly out of the house. My wife and I enjoy them being around. I spend my time working in the development and construction business when we have opportunities. When I am not working or serving as a Boy Scout Master and volunteering at the food storage center, I go the beach and surf and try to snow ski as often as I can. I keep my lawn and yard looking nice and try to keep 5 cars running for the family. I have been restoring a 1969 VW van for the last few years. I have a strong desire to serve when the opportunity arises. It could be moving someone new into the area or setting up chairs or preparing the church house for an event. This being said, I watch too much TV and support my sports habits. I enjoy spending time with my wife and family.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in the church in a small town in Oregon, I found strength attending a small ward that covered a large area, made up of famers and loggers. Being LDS was not the norm. I found that the teachings of the church were very clear for health reasons, family unity, and simple gosple truths that were taught from the Bible and other scripture related to our faith. I found that I felt better when I followed those teachings and felt bad when I went along with the pressures of my school mates. Over time I gained a testimony of the gosple principles and the requirements to follow them. When I was a missionary in southern California, I found a spiritual side of the gospel and the strength and assurity that it gave me of what I was doing was right. This training allowed me to touch many peoples lives. I found a lot of joy from the service that I was able to give. My missionary service layed a foundation for the rest of my life.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life by example. The standards of the Mormon faith are clear and allow you fremdom of knowing what is right. I find that not drinking is a way that sets me apart and I have been acting this way for so long that the people around me expect the very best from me. I know that Mormons have a reputation for being honest, hardworking and family centered. I feel a responsiblity to live up to the positve things the church stands for. If I don't live up to the LDS standards, not only will I let myself down, but it will reflect on all other chruch members that are living a Christ centered life. For many years I have taught in the youth programs and I feel an added responsiblity to act in a manner that would be consident with the teachings that I taught these young people. I want to be a better father, husband and person, and I think the Mormon faith helps me do this. I want to continue living my life with the knowledge that Christ gave his life for me so that I can return to live with Him and my family.
