Hi I'm Tom

I'm a happy Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married and a father of two daughters and have four grandchildren. I am a professor in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington. I enjoy young people and playing with my grandkids. I love music of almost all genres and love the outdoors, especially forests and seasides. I enjoy hiking and photography as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the Church. I was active in the Presbyterian Church before I became a Mormon. It seemed to me that there was something missing. I believed in God and Jesus Christ, but I wasn't being filled. Thirty-seven years ago neighbors moved in across the street who were Mormons and we became great friends...our daughters were about the same ages as their sons. They showed us by example what a happy family could be in terms of the way they treated each other. Gradually they taught us why that peace and direction existed in their lives, and that the Mormons believed that the eternal unit is the family and families could be forever. This learning experience went on for a few years until we finally invited the missionaries into our home. After much study and prayer I received a profound manifestation that the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ was indeed true and that the LDS Church was indeed Heavenly Father's true church upon the earth. So my wife and I, and our two daughters joined the Church 35 years ago. It has been an incredible journey since that time.

How I live my faith

I have had various callings in the Church, including being a home teacher, an early morning seminary teacher, scoutmaster and Bishop of a young single adult ward at the university. I now serve as a nursery worker in my ward. It is wonderful being so close to the little ones whom have so recently come from Heavenly Father's side. My callings in the Church have given me an outlet to show my love to my Heavenly Father by serving His children...all the while I have been growing myself. That happiness, joy and peace that I sought years before I joined the Church I now find as a Latter-Day Saint. I also find that it is true that joy comes when losing yourself in serving others.
