Hi I'm Alan

I'm a Mormon. Ward missionary with a dead car!

About Me

Where to begin? I'm a british transplant in New Mexico (long story) and i converted to the church around a monh ago! Been a crazy time but so worth it i feel, changed my life in so many ways. Made my life better, of course and obviously. It was tough to "give up" things like smoking, coffee and (not so much) alcohol but the but the blessings I have received in my life......the wonderful brethren and sisters who have helped me, the friends I have made and the void in my life which Heavenly Father filled....I have just received my first Calling and am trying to serve my brothers and sisters in Christ as best as I can. I'm a cycling nut, love mountain biking and am everywhere on my bike - had a brief foray with driving but the car rejected me, so am back in the saddle! - hard to get around, especially in winter but you can't beat it! I also write poetry and am working on a novel and a few short stories....

Why I am a Mormon

I was a life-long agnostic before i converted. You see i was looking for answers and no faith or church could supply them. I saw the endless hypocracy of other Christian faiths, especially Catholicism from my native Ireland, and just could not follow the lies. No-one was doing as Jesus did; churches and cathedrals filled with gold, patriarchs and church 'leaders' living in luxury, child abuse scandals covered up, wars justified and glorified, spreading hatred instead of love.....the list goes on and on. Then i invited the missionaries into my home, having heard about the church from people, i decided to give it a chance. They came, they taught, i was "sold". Everything i had been looking for, it all just fell into place! I could praise God without feeling like a hypocrite, i could welcome Jesus into my life without shame.....i'd finally found my place, the place i hadn't even realised i was searching for!

How I live my faith

To me, my faith is to be as much like Christ as you can. To love everyone and treat everyone well as he did. To always choose good and do good as he did. To serve others whenever and however you can and without thought of complaint or of reward. We can't be as perfect as Jesus was, but that's no reason not to try! So all men and women are my brothers and sisters. Be they members of the church or not, if i am able to help and somehow brighten their day, i will do so!
