Hi I'm Thayne

I am an artist, a stay at home Dad and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being outside. I love ridding my bike up and down hills. I have a son and a daughter with whom I spend most of my time with as a stay at home dad, as my wife delivers babies and helps women in her Midwifery work. We love sailing toy sailboats and playing in parks. I am a graphic designer and love visually rich environments. I enjoy using what I need and doing with out what don't need. I find my greatest joys in life are witnessing God's hand in all things, from my children's innocent love to the beauty of this world in the changing of the seasons.

Why I am a Mormon

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has shown me how to have a personal relationship with My Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ. I know that they live and love me just as sure as the sun gives light and life to the earth. I know this through very powerful feelings I have received, and communication I have had with them. Communication clear and discernible that has left no question for me to wonder if it was good or not, or who sent it. I know I am on a path of improvement and development. And if I continue to repent, Christ will fill in all that I lack. This church has also taut me how to look for and find truth. Communication with divinity is the only way one can find truth to the most important questions. When the Holy Ghost connects you to pure truth the understanding is on a level much more profound and long lasting than if any mortal gave you the answer. This communication can come anytime, place or during a conversation with anyone.

How I live my faith

For me the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most important thing. It affects every aspect of my life. I am trying to be like Jesus is a phrase we use a lot and even though I fail on many levels it is my goal. If anyone were to look at my life and see anything worthy of praise it is due to the learning of and slow and steady application of the principles of the gospel.

What do Mormons believe about family?

I feel that the lessons I am learning through my family are the greatest and most important in life. I have learned that the deep indescribable love I have for my son is the same that my father in heaven has for me. And I know that his love is even greater. Through the family I am learning how to care more for the needs of others than myself, and the great happiness that comes from such love. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I have had multiple experiences and feelings in my heart that have confirmed that we have and need a modern day prophet. The person I have become has been influenced greatly by the teachings of the modern day prophets. I have made many changes in my life that have been directed by the teachings from the prophets. The way I can tell what they say is true, and I should adjust my behavior, is a strong undeniable feeling I receive from the Holy Ghost. Not only do know what they teach are true principles, but I also receive a help and determination to follow through with it. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

He is our father. This truth is the most profound truth embedded in my heart. I have many simple yet profound experiences that in my heart and mind have given me undeniable evidence of the love my Heavenly Father has for me. We come to know him by strengthening our relationship to him. Just like any relationship. Communication is the most important key in this process. Once you learn how you can communicate to him, and you do so regularly, the ways that he is always communicating to you begin to be revealed. Prayer, scripture study, and service are some of the ways I have found, that open the channels for heavenly communication. They seem simple, yet there is great power in simple things. What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is the word of God for us. I offered a Book of Mormon to a man I met last week. He asked me "why should I accept it"? I had forgotten why he would need the book. After our visit I realized I had taken for granted the beautiful and wondrous truths found in the Book of Mormon. I figured everyone has them from one source or another. But the reality is they don't. Our Father in Heaven has more for us his children to know about him, his son, his love and his gospel. That is why we need the Book of Mormon. When there is a story that is very popular in the media with multiple books, much of the public goes crazy about them. They can't wait until the next book comes out. What about the greatest true story in the History of the earth? Even the story of The Son of God on the earth. And God's work throughout history. Wouldn't you want to know every possible detail about that story? And to have the validly of additions to that story backed by God himself? That is the offer and much more from the Book of Mormon. I wish I could have a second chance to tell that good man I met, who is a true believer of Christ, that His Father in Heaven has more for him. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Holy Ghost? Who is the Holy Ghost?

As a member of the Godhead the Holy Ghost is the conduit for God to reveal himself to me. All the truth, light and pure knowledge I have gained in this life has come to me through the Holy Ghost. He has given me my greatest gift of knowledge, my powerful understanding of the love of my Father in Heaven. And the knowledge that I am his son. I know and trust the impressions I receive from the Holy Ghost as much as I trust the sun shining to make the day. He helps me find truth where ever it may be found, and helps me put that truth in the right place in my mind and heart. I love the Holy Ghost. I know when I make corrections to my behavior to be in tune with the feelings I receive from God through the Holy Ghost I find joy beyond what I am able to describe. To have contact with a member of the Godhead in my daily life is a privilege I pray I will not take for granted. But that I might live my life growing brighter and brighter and closer and closer and closer to my Father in Heaven. I know it is the mission of the Holy Ghost to help me on that corse. Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

God, our Father in Heaven, communicates his word and will for his children the same as he always has. Through his prophets. A prophet is a man chosen by God to deliver his word to the world. I get great comfort in the fact that God is the same yesterday today and forever. Just like he called his prophets in the biblical times he called Joseph Smith to restore his gospel in these latter days. For me the story of Joseph Smith has strengthened my relationship with my Heavenly Father. To have a young boy, in faith, pray to God and have his prayer answered is monumental. I have Likewise offered prayers and received of God. Mine is not the calling to be a prophet but Joseph sets an important example and teaches among other things that the heavens are not closed and God continues to communicate with us. Joseph Smith was instrumental in establishing Gods work in the latter days. He received many revelations or instructions from God for us to follow in these trying hard times. And set a pattern for continued revelation for the prophets to follow. And as I mentioned he helped us realize that personal revelation is a way for us to have God communicate directly with his children. Do you want to know what God has for you to do? Ask him. God gives direction to his children collectively through his chosen prophet and individually through the Holy Ghost. How can you know who the prophet is right now? Ask God. Ask him if he chose Joseph Smith in 1820 and if he chose Thomas S. Monson in 2008. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Communication between husband and wife. Also communication of correct principals to children I feel is so crucial. Also the establishment of healthy habits and procedures for when temptations arise can help avoid pitfalls that are constantly surrounding us. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

I know the Bible to be the word of God. With it we get a glimpse into the workings of our Father in Heaven with his children throughout history. As I study I find parallels in my own life. I hopefully can make my life more in line with the great teachings and examples of the past and with those of our Savior. The Scriptures are full of truth and as I study and apply such truth I find my life is better in every aspect. And my soul is full of peace. Show more Show less

Who are the Mormons?

As a "Mormon" I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ. I have had felt to sing the song of redeeming love of my savior Jesus Christ. I have found that I come to know Jesus Christ through my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I strive to learn and follow his teaching. I find these truths in every good thing. And I know that I would not be as good of a person without the Gospel of Jesus Christ Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

The Sun, the moon that reflects the Sun. The love I have for my son and daughter. The feeling I have when I do good. Repentance. Spring. Summer. Fall. Winter. Trees. Children. Walking. The Desert. Love Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

For me this doctrine shows that God, our Father in Heaven is a God of love and equality. He makes it more than possible for all of his children to be like him and live with him. Couple this truth with the infinite mercy of the atonement and one realizes that we all have ample opportunity to return home. Our father wants us to come back to him and it is possible for us to do so. No matter your circumstances on earth there is hope for all of us. Being an active participant in the work for those who have passed on helps link us to them. I have had very tender experiences in the walls of the temple that have made this doctrine real and vibrant. I know that our ancestors are involved in this work and in our individual lives. Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Did Jesus Christ only help Jewish people? He was no respecter of persons. And we should likewise strive to help anyone in need. This is a daunting work, but I can testify that their is great joy in the service of others. As Jesus Christ himself said: "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it". I am far from perfect in this charge but I can say that as this attitude has begun to define my actions toward my fellow men of all walks of life. I have begun to discover a new person inside of me, one who needs less and less for myself. And I have found that the things I do want are usually tools and skills to help others. Who is the Mormon prophet today?

I know the prophet for the world right now is President Thomas S. Monson. He is the man God has chosen to declare his word to the world today. Just as in times past. I have had a witness given to me by the Holy Ghost that he is Gods chosen prophet. Our father wants us to know certain things and I testify that it is given to us by this man right now. Come and find out for yourself! Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a Mormon is like taking a test that you have actually been prepared for. I am not someone who enjoys test taking but when I know what and how to answer it may still be challenging but there is no question what I do. Our Father in Heaven wants us to be the best we can be. So he has a rigorous curriculum for us to learn and complete in this life. But he gives us all the answers, and divine help. I feel like in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we have the help of the Lord to perform well in life. The list is long of the requirements to be a member of the church but the list of what one gains in return is infinite. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship our God our, Father in Heaven, and our Savior Jesus Christ. They are the only beings that merit to be worshiped. Every scripture written by every prophet from adam down to our living prophets point to God and the message is clear to whom we should worship. Show more Show less

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

I feel that being engaged in welfare service is, in a very real way, doing what Jesus would do if he were on the earth. It is difficult to know the pains and struggles of those who suffer. But I know that God, The Father of us all, knows and this is one way he is helping to provide for us his children. The principles taut in the welfare program not only provide a means of relief but teach self reliance principles and engage recipients in the service of others. Welfare service is a great start in learning how to love and care for others. And for me has introduced a wide world of service. As I have found that real joy comes in serving others. Are there restrictions based on race or color concerning who can join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have the priesthood?

I know that God loves all of his children. And I am so glad the church has no limitation on race color or any other physical attribute. Jesus invited all to follow him. And all can follow. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

To become a better me is my goal in life. I am constantly realizing faults I have and trying to correct them. This process is only possible with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Goodness and truth and progression would not be possible with out him. And most important forgiveness and the affects of sin. Which separate me from My Father in Heaven. Only Christ could have paid that price. And He did. And I have tasted of that forgiveness and felt clean. I have had divine comfort surround me like a warm blanket and hide me from the otherwise detrimental affects of my mistakes. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Jesus Christ has asked all of his followers to go and preach the gospel to every creature. I took willingly my first opportunity to serve a full time mission in Chile 13 years ago. And I continue to share the truths of the gospel as much as I can. I find that a great peace and a spirit enter my life as I share my conviction of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. And I have see people change their lives for the better as I have shared with them the principles of the gospel. And the course of my life has been changed into something much better then I could have done on my own. I attribute this to the sharing of the gospel. For the more I share the more I live it myself. Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

I believe in an all loving Father in Heaven. If Our Savior Jesus Christ had need to be baptized and he gave commandment for all to be baptized then what is to become of the millions who have lived on earth and have never received any knowledge of the Savior of the World. Are they condemned? I know that our Father in Heaven has prepared a way for them. And lucky for use we can be a part of it. It is a very special experience to participate in the work for those who never had the chance in their earth life. A very quiet loving feeling. And a feeling like I am part of some of the greatest work on the earth. Show more Show less
