Hi I'm Debbie

I'm a wife, the mother of 8, the secretary of an elementary school, I love to travel and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I loved being a stay at home mom. I delighted in volunteering in their classrooms and serving in the PTA - I was even the PTA president a couple of times. My favorite memories are the adventures I shared with my kids; trips to the beach, the park, long road trips, singing kid songs in the car, eating dinner together each evening and especially fun at Disneyland When the youngest two were in high school, I took a job as the clerk of an elementary school. Six months later found me as the secretary of the school and I've been there for 6 years. I enjoy working with the students, staff and parents and look for ways to be helpful through out the day. I enjoy cooking, sewing, doing crafts and playing the piano. I like to read good books. I relish visiting my kids and grandkids. I thrive on traveling with my husband; seeing different countries, people and cultures. I am also quite content to be at home and putter around.

Why I am a Mormon

My family has been members of the LDS church for many generations, so I was raised a Mormon. But I gained my own testimony when I was a teenager by reading the Book of Mormon and praying about whether it was true. When I was in college I was going through a rather stressful time and I got down on my knees and poured out my heart to my Father in Heaven, asking for His help. I had the most loving, peaceful, embracing feeling come over me - it just filled me, my entire being, with warmth and love. I had never felt anything like it before and I didn't want it to ever go away. I realized it was the Holy Ghost pouring out Heavenly Father's love to me. I knew in my core that I was loved and that my Heavenly Father knew who I was and cared about me. I stayed on my knees for a long time, lingering in that wonderful feeling, not wanting it to leave. I have only felt that same sense of all encompassing love, peacefulness a couple of other times in my life. But during hard times, I reflect back on those feelings of love and peace and it helps me through. I know I have a Father in Heaven, that he knows me personally and loves me unconditionally. I'm a Mormon because when I live my life according to the gospel and to the teachings of Christ I am happy. My favorite scripture has always been Joshua 24:15, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to follow in the footsteps of the Savior. I try to be happy, helpful and cheerful. I try to help others and give service. I have served in many areas in the church, with young children, elementary aged children, teenagers and adult women. Among my favorite callings in the church has been serving with the young women, teenage girls. I served there for about 10 years and organized many events, including weekly activities, service projects, teaching them new skills, a week long camp every summer and a yearly conference for the boys and girls to enjoy together. I loved their enthusiasm, zest for life, teachability and the love they freely gave me. I loved watching them grow, develop and gain their own testimony of the truthfulness of the church and of a personal Savior. My husband is now the Bishop of an adult single's ward, 30 years and older. I am able to serve in that ward with him. This has quickly become my favorite calling! I help with meals for 100 twice a month, enjoy hosting many events in our home and our social calendar is now more full than it was with 5 teenagers in the house! It has been delightful serving alongside them, getting to know them - their joys and sorrows - building new friendships and growing in the gospel together. I have discovered I am happiest when I am busy, helping and serving others, making good choices, keeping the commandments and living the gospel of Jesus Christ. I delight in helping others along this path we call life in our common quest to live the best life that we can. I've found that reading the scriptures, praying, learning about Christ, following His example, helping others and being a good person is the way back to my Heavenly Father.
