Hi I'm Fred

I grew up in Arizona, USA. I love working with wood as a finish carpenter. I'm a retired grader operator. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I’m the middle of 9 children born to parents of pioneer stalk in Arizona. I started milking cows at age 5, and with my brothers, milked and fed calves and pigs before and after school. We rode horses and helped Dad manage his large herd of cows. Money was scarce, so we learned to fix, build and make do with what was at hand. At age 15 we ran power saws with Dad for logging contracts that others wouldn’t do because of their difficult terrain. I graduated from high school and seminary and developed a love of the scriptures. I served a mission for the Church in the Northwestern States and loved bearing testimony of Jesus Christ. I had a couple of years of college before and after marriage to my sweetheart from Idaho. After she finished her degree and we had two children, we moved to British Columbia, Canada, to help my parents on their farm/ranch. We’re still here. We had 4 more children, and now all 6 of them and our 12 (soon-to-be 15) grandchildren live in Utah. We manage to see them some each year either here or there. Through the years I have logged, run a sawmill, done lots of carpentry and handyman jobs, farmed, ranched, and now have retired from the local highways department where I ran a grader and other equipment to keep the roads in good shape. Finish carpentry is my first love, and I’ve made several grandfather clocks, lots of toys, furniture, and cabinets, as well as several buildings, including our home.

Why I am a Mormon

I’m a Mormon because I have studied the scriptures, prayed, and know for myself that this is His true Church. The Holy Ghost has born witness to me that Jesus is the Christ, that He did come to earth, that He died and was resurrected, and because of Him, it is possible for us to be forgiven of our sins and return to live with Him and our Father in Heaven. When He was upon the earth, He established His Church with apostles and prophets. Because of apostasy it was lost. I know by the same witness of the Holy Ghost, that He has restored His Church to earth again through the Prophet Joseph Smith with all the keys, priesthood, and authority that existed in His original Church. This knowledge allows me to be pleased to serve Him any way I can.

How I live my faith

I attend church each Sunday and serve various ways through the week to help those in need. I’ve served in many positions as teacher and leader in the church, and have been a teacher in the community for college classes and served as president of the Parents Advisory Committee in the school at one time. I continue to have the opportunity to bless God’s children in many ways. Whether I’m at work, or play, or in service, I strive to emulate Christ’s example of love and charity to all people I come in contact with. I'm pleased at this time to serve as a full-time missionary for the Church with my wife in Kenya, Africa, for 18 months.
