Hi I'm Catherine

I love music, sports, and nature, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Catherine, and I am 20 years old. Right now, I am a junior in college studying Nursing, which is a new-found passion of mine. I love life! I love being outside in the sunshine and exploring nature. I enjoy painting and playing music. I love being around my family and friends, and I love my church.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents have been members of this church for their entire lives, and as a result of this, I have grown up being taught their beliefs and values. Interestingly, I have never really felt the need to question the beliefs I've been taught, because as I learn more, the things I learn make sense to me and fill all the holes in my life, making me feel complete and happy. What better answer can we receive than by being happy when we do the things we learn? The more I learn about God through reading the Book of Mormon and listening to the words of our modern prophet, Thomas S. Monson, I feel greater peace and joy in my life. In a world where so many only rely on their eyes and on theirs eyes to show reality, I believe that we can find the reality of truth in many things that we can't see or hear, but just feel. Feelings are often the most powerful of all witnesses of truth to me. Another reason why I am a Mormon, is because I see what it brings to my family. I come from a family with 11 siblings...I know...a lot. :) People ask me all the time if my siblings and I get along. I can answer truthfully, yes! But I attribute that to our being members of this church. As a family we come closer together as we read the Book of Mormon every night together, and as we follow the teachings in it. It teaches us of forgiveness, tolerance, and unconditional love, and as a result, my siblings are my very best friends. I feel so grateful to have them in my life and I know we have been so happy as a result of our religion. I know with all my heart that these things I have said are true. God loves his children so much, and that is the reason he restored his true church again, through the prophet Joseph Smith. Anyone who would like to know these things can know as they read the Book of Mormon, and then pray and ask God, sincerely, and he will teach them if these things are true.

How I live my faith

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I can say through personal experience that everyone is valued and part of a wonderful community. I have found so many close friends through my membership in this church who have helped me to see great value in myself, and who inspire me, and also lift and serve me in the hard times when I need a friend. This is how I live my faith, by following the example of Jesus Christ by doing my best to lift, comfort, and strengthen the people around me. Our church leaders teach us that there are so many people in this world who need our help and love, and when we reach out with a kind word or an act of service, we not only bless their lives but our very own. Mormons live our faith by trying a make a difference in this big world and by making it a better place, little by little. Many people think that Mormons expect a lot of commitment from its members. That is true, but they are commitments that I have never regretted making and have in fact, have truly blessed my life. Attending high school in a small town in Washington, I felt so different from the people around me. I was asked to refrain from drugs and alcohol, not to swear or use profane language, or to have any sexual relations, and was taught to wear clothing that was always modest. However, I saw that by living these standards, I was happier than many of the people around me. I didn't have to worry about things such as getting a DUI, or having a teenage pregnancy, and I learned to respect my body as a gift from God. I was protected from so many things that could be addictive or unwholesome. Living my faith is precious privilege, because everyday I feel closer to God, and I know that he loves me very much, and that gives me a confidence in myself that no amount of beauty, no money or clothes can bring.
