Hi I'm Karli

I'm a writer, I'm a Special Educator, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm graduating from college in fall of 2011 with my degree in Special Education. Working with kids is my love and passion. I write in my free time and will start graduate school to earn my Master's in Literature and Writing. I especially love creative stories and poetry. I was adopted by the most loving family in the world when I was a baby and am grateful to be an eternal family. I'm married to the love of my life, Ryan, and can't wait to have a family of our own.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of Jesus Christ's church because He is my Lord and Savior and it is through Him that I can have eternal joy. I love to be happy! There is no happier feeling in the world than knowing that I don't have to return to heaven alone, but I will be forever connected to my parents, sister and husband... and all of our ancestors. I grew up in a home where my mother was a church member and my father was not. He began attending church in California where we lived. I never realized how much the church meant to me until I attended a youth program through the church when I was 14. There, I learned more of Jesus Christ's love for us and I knew that His teachings in the Book of Mormon were true. I wanted my dad to know the same truths that I had learned. For 8 months I wrote scriptures from the Bible and Book of Mormon on little note cards and left them in places where he would find them (his briefcase, jacket pocket, etc.). He never said a word to me about them. I would often feel discouraged and wonder if he was even reading them. Then one day he was flying to Italy for a 3-week-long business trip. I got a Book of Mormon and made a cover with pictures of our family taped inside, along with my simple testimony: "I know this church is the Lord's church. He suffered and died for our sins so that we can repent and become more like Him to return to live with Him someday. I know that the things Jesus taught in this book are true and real. I know that God and Jesus still speak to us today through the Prophet, just like they have always spoke to people through prophets. I know that prayer is real and it works. Heavenly Father hears us, listens and answers. I know that if you read this book, you'll feel the spirit. And if you pray, you'll learn that it's true." My mom, sister and I prayed our hearts out while he gone. When he returned home, he took me out to dinner and told me that he'd read the book and he was going to be baptized. And what a blessing that has been!

How I live my faith

For 2 years I was a teacher for the women in the church. I taught lessons about the scriptures, prayer, faith, fasting, repentance, baptism, family and lots of other similar topics. Each class was an hour long for just the women. It was a spiritually uplifting time where we could have discussions, share stories and spiritual experiences. I loved teaching and hope to be called as a teacher again. "Callings" are positions where ordinary, seemingly "unqualified" people are asked (or offered) to teach, visit others, organize groups, etc. It is prayerfully considered by the leaders of the church and then offered to individuals in the church. Sometimes Heavenly Father believes in me more than I believe in myself. However, it's been said, "When the Lord calls, He qualifies." I teach in church because I know I can make a difference in the lives of others and I learn and grow in the process. I give service to others by helping those in need. Teaching Special Education is a wonderful way to show my Savior that I love Him. "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me." - Matthew 25:40. This means that when we serve others, we are serving the Lord. I love teaching kids with severe disabilities and feeling their sweet spirits. I love my Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. Read the Book of Mormon. Learn for yourself that Jesus Christ visited the Americas, as well as the Middle East. I know He lives. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
