Hi I'm Karissa

I'm from Pittsburgh. I study advertising at BYU. I love sports and the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My father helped convert my mother to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before I was alive, so I was born into it. It's been the biggest blessing in my life to be a member of the Church. It's brought me so much peace, love, and clarity in both the good and bad times of my life. I grew up in Pittsburgh and was the only Mormon at my school. It was difficult at times, but I loved it and I learned so much about myself because of it. It allowed be to be "in the world, but not of the world." I wasn't very sheltered so I was able to be friends with people of all different beliefs and cultures. However people did notice I was different, because I didn't succumb to the many temptations of the world that so many of my friends struggled with. Even though some of my friends found it strange that I chose not to do all the things that they thought were cool and fun, they actually really respected me for it. Many have even told me they wish they had the strength to say no too. I love soccer, I've played since I was 5. I also love playing pretty much any other sport out there. I just enjoy being active and competing. I love the outdoors and all it has to offer. I go to BYU and am majoring in Advertising. It's a fun major because it allows me to be creative. I love laughing and making people laugh. I love uplifting music with powerful messages. I LOVE the Gospel and my family and friends!

Why I am a Mormon

Like I said before, I've been going to church since I was born. However, I've gained my own testimony of its truth at a young age by going through the biggest challenge of my life. When I was nine, my father was killed in an accident at his work. It was unexpected, tragic, and devastating to my family and me. The only thing that kept us sane was the knowledge that we could be with him again in heaven. I know this to be true with every fiber of my being! It's something I think we all feel is true; but without the Gospel, people don't know how to be sure of it. I'm thankful that I am sure of it. I wish everyone could hear the message of the Plan of Salvation and know that Families are ETERNAL as long as we follow the commandments and follow the Lord's plan for us! So why am I a Mormon? Because it not only gives me the hope of being with my Heavenly Father and my earthly family forever in heaven to live in eternal happiness and peace, but it also gives me detailed directions on how to get there.

How I live my faith

I strive to be a good example to the people around me. When I'm around my nonmember friends, I try to show them how much happiness comes from being righteous. Some might think that abiding to all of these "Mormon rules" is too demanding and ties you down. But honestly, I know that when I am following the rules to my best ability, that's when I feel the most free! Getting caught up in worldly things just brings you down and takes away the Spirit. When I'm following the commandments and being a good person, that's when I'm truly the happiest! I live my faith by always trying to be the best person I can be, and improving myself in the areas that I might be struggling with. I try to be honest and loving to others and try to help them to see the light too.
