Hi I'm Forrest

I grew up in a small town in Wyoming. I can tell the difference between gneiss and schist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a town of 180 people in northern Wyoming. I have four brothers and one sister, and we are great friends. I played football and basketball in high school, and still like to play and watch sports. I took up fishing during my undergraduate education, and fell into the water on three different occasions. I love to read, and almost any genre is fine with me; I read more fantasy than anything, though. Right now I am pursuing a Master's degree in Geology, and plan on working in the oil and gas industry when I graduate.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both Mormons, so I was raised in the Church. Like anybody who follows in their parents footsteps, I eventually had to make a choice of whether I would continue in that path or choose my own. I knew I had had many experiences that convinced me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the Lord's church. The Holy Ghost has confirmed to me that the Book of Mormon is true, and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Knowing these things has set the foundation for my belief in all of the doctrines taught by the Mormon faith. The most important doctrine that I know to be true is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God our Heavenly Father, the Savior of the world, and my personal savior. I have felt His redeeming love, have been forgiven of sins because of His Atonement, and will live again because of He lives again. These truths dictate all that I do. They sustain me through difficulties and guide my path. I know I am where God wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by living the teachings of Jesus Christ. Primarily this means loving God above all other things, and loving my neighbors as myself. I try to be friendly to those around me, and look for people who may need to be lifted up. I try to not become frustrated with people or situations that I am not happy with. These aren't easy things to do, of course. I try to live a clean life, so that I would not be uncomfortable in the presence of God or Jesus Christ. I try to be clean in my speech, behavior, thoughts, actions, and appearance. I participate in my church meetings, where I have taught classes and lessons, or helped organize information for the members. When I am not teaching, I try to participate in class to help whoever is. I make monthly visits, with a companion, to members of the church in my area to make sure they are doing ok. I try to live my faith in everything that I do.

In whom should we have faith?

Mormons believe that faith is only faith if it is founded on God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. We believe that faith is an action word, meaning that to really have faith in God, Christ, or the Holy Ghost means to try our best to do what they have taught. We can have faith in the principles that they have taught through prophets, both modern and ancient. That means we can trust in the promises we find in scripture. We can have faith that God will bless us for doing what He asks. Show more Show less
