Hi I'm Patti

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in the "Bible Belt" in Southern IN. I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at age 40.

About Me

I grew up in the hills of Southern Indiana, nutured by wonderful parents. We were the "Walton type" family surrounded by a community of loving neighbors. My mother was a teacher and taught me the importance of reading and how it could open up my world. I am still an avid reader. My Father taught me the joy of music and continue to enjoy it to this day. I worked as a dental assistant for several years and then worked various jobs until retiring some years ago. I married my high school sweetheart and we have 3 children and 8 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

At the age of 40, I became very concerned about my spiritual life and began the process of looking for the "right" church to worship in. I literally forced my husband and children up every Sunday morning to attend another church I had found during that particular week. We liked the ministers, the congregations but something was always missing. I was so goal orintated that I wrote on a 3x5 card what I wanted in a church home. For months, I would read the card before going to bed. Soon I met a man who shared with me some things about his church. I was intrigued and agreed to have him come to our home. Later we agreed to listen to the missionaries. Each day as I would read The Book of Mormon I would pray that "if God didn't want me to read this book, to please let me know." Being raised Baptist we were naturally suspicious of scriptures beyond the Bible. However, each day I read I felt so much peace as I learned more and more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was true, and like Joseph Smith "I knew God knew that I knew it was true..........and I could not deny it." My realtionship with my Heavenly Father is so strong as is my testimony of Christ our Savior.

How I live my faith

I serve in the women's organization.as a coordinator for one of the programs and have served in many areas during the last 30 years. Our church has a unique program called Home & Visiting Teaching. Visiting Teaching is a women's program and each sister is assignments other sisters to contact each month to see how they are and how we can serve them. To watch over specific sisters assigned to me is like being Heavenly Father's hands and feet to be there for those sisters each moth. I attend church faithfully and do whatever I can to help others.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

I believe if our leaders testimonies are controlled by the billfold, that truth will not be spoken. Our leaders do not receive any monetary rewards for their service therfore they are not influenced by it and can serve from their hearts. Show more Show less
