Hi I'm Nate Merrill

I'm from Salt Lake City. I love books, to watch Bewitched reruns, and playing the violin. I want to be a dentist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I play the violin, and play some on the piano. I love reading things like Harry Potter, Fablehaven, and other fantasy stuff. I also like reading murder mysteries, mostly by Mary Higgins Clark. I'm not big into sports, but I occasionally like to play volleyball and sometimes basketball. I like to ski on both snow and water. I like to swim. I like collecting model cars. My all time favorite car is almost anything made by Subaru. I love being with my family. We always have loads of fun together whether its on a family vacation or simply a night together at home. I am a student at the University of Utah, but am currently serving a mission for the church in the Canada Toronto Mission. I want to be a dentist. I guess I just like that sort of thing...right up until you get to dentures. So, I'll probably do some of everything in dentistry. Who knows, maybe I'll be something else. My taste in music is probably a little different from most young men. My favorite artists are Sarah Brightman, and Josh Groban. They have such wonderful talent and their kind of vocal style is what I like. I am a big listener of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, even on weekdays. I like having fun activities with friends. I really try to be a sensitive guy and try to lift someone up every day.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church since I was born. It has taught me a lot. Knowing what I have learned in church has helped me to be who I am today. More importantly my parents have helped me to be who I am and I cherish their councel that they have taught me in church, at home, and wherever. I wasn't always sure about the church. Until the age of 14, I was just following my parents and leaning on their strength and testimony. When I was 14, my family took a vacation to see various church history sites as well as American history. Some of those places were Sharon, Vermont, the birth place of Joseph Smith, and Palmyra, New York. While in Palmyra we saw the Hill Cumorah pagent that had thousands of people sharing their testimonies through a musical production. The other place we went to was what we call the Sacred Grove. It's a group of trees where Joseph Smith prayed and received his vision of the Lord Jesus Christ and God, our Heavenly Father. I took the opportunity to pray within those very trees. I had a wonderful warm, calm feeling of peace come over me. I knew without a doubt at that point that Joseph saw what he saw. I knew that my parents were teaching me what God would have me know. I had gained my own witness from the Spirit. It means so much to me to know this church is Christ's church. It feels so good to know I have something I can trust and believe on, especially in this troubled world.

How I live my faith

I strive my best every day to follow the commandments of God and to follow Jesus Christ better than the day before. I try to be like Christ as best I know how. There is lots of improvement to come and it's hard sometimes, but it's worth it. I am currently serving as a missionary trying to share with people the Gospel that has raised me up, moved me forward, and helped me through lifes challenges throughout my life. I am constantly looking for simple ways I can help people every day.
