Hi I'm Jim

I live in Arizona. I am married to a great wife. I like reading, baseball and hiking. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like living in Arizona because I like to hike in and around the Grand Canyon. I hiked from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the South Rim in 2007 and really enjoyed and really felt invigorated by the hike. I like to read, especially history centered books that are factual verses fictional historical novels. I work in the enrollment department for a University based in Arizona. Besides other duties, my main job thrust is to place students with the proper advisor to receive the correct educational program. I am married to a great lady for a little over 23 years and I still feel like a newlywed. At church, in the congregation my wife and I attend, my current position is the secretary to our men’s’ organization, Elder's Quorum.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, nicknamed Mormons because we use an additional volume of scriptures entitled the Book of Mormon. I am a convert to the church. I first became aware of the LDS Church when I was exploring different religious. My initial intention was to gather information on different religions to further my understanding of others and to gain a larger religious perspective. In this search, I asked a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a list of the church’s fundamental beliefs I could review. A few days later, I was presented with a book that is another testament of Jesus Christ. The book was the Book of Mormon. I was and still am a reader of the Bible so I had some experience in reading the words of prophets, apostles, recorder-historian, and the Savior Jesus Christ. I began my reading of the Book of Mormon and soon realized it was a good book. I did not know if the book was scripture but I did understand that the prophet-historian writers were focusing on individuals and those individuals’ interactions with God, angels, and God’s revelations. I continued to read further and did finish the Book of Mormon but I did not know if the book was scripture. I inquired of the one that initially presented me with the Book of Mormon and I was directed to Moroni, the last prophet in the book, chapter ten verses 4 to 6. Moroni wrote that I could ask of God whether these things, the Book of Mormon, were true and receive an answer by the Holy Ghost. I did pray and when I prayed with real intent to know, I received the answer that it was true. The Book of Mormon is the reason I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have gained further testimony of more principles of the gospel through study and prayers, but the Book of Mormon was my gateway to understanding the gospel and becoming a Latter Day Saint.

How I live my faith

I strive to live the golden rule, to do onto others like I would like others to do onto me. I wrote striving because I am far from perfect and need the atonement of Jesus Christ constantly. I try to look and see what others may need. Sometimes it is simple things like opening a door for someone with an arm full of stuff or a kind word when things are not going well. I have found there are many simple opportunities to help others that can have an impact daily in others lives. I read the scriptures and try to take those lessons and incorporate those principles into my dealings with others. In addition, I try to live the commandments of Jesus Christ to the best of my ability. I think trying to live the commandments influences my interactions with others positively throughout the day.
