Hi I'm Lowry Akers

Blessed to have been able to serve a 2 yr mission in Tacoma WA. Served in Olympia, Sequim, Bremerton area, Spanaway and Puyallup.

About Me

I am a college student. I love the outdoors. I love playing and watching sports. I spent two years playing college football at Snow College in Ephraim, UT. I have a large family and I love spending time with them and friends. I love being a part of a team. I served a two-year mission for the church from 2007-2009 in the Tacoma Washington mission. I loved the area and the people I was able to meet. I miss the area and the people every day. I served all over northwest Washington, from Sequim to Olympia and everywhere in between, including Bremerton, Gig Harbor, Puyallup and Spanaway. I plan on graduating with a degree in Psychology and eventually integrating that with health and fitness or sports. The church and my family are the most important things in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My mom was baptized a member of the church when she was a young girl but wasn't active in the church until she was much older. My dad had served in the navy and had been drafted to play professional baseball. He passed up that opportunity to start a family and life with my mom. He was baptized when he was 29. There are 6 children in my family who are all members of the church. I am a Mormon and am active in the church because I have a testimony that the church is true. Independent of anyone else I know it is true. When i was 8 years old my family had read The Book of Mormon and I prayed on my own to know whether or not the book and church was true. I received the most peaceful feeling and impression in my mind from the Holy Spirit that the Book of Mormon was true. That feeling has stayed with me from that moment and my testimony has increased since then. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was called as a boy prophet and through the power of God was able to restore Christ's church once again to the earth. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that he is the savior of the world. I know that God is our eternal father in heaven and that he loves us. I know that families can be together forever and that means the world to me. My family is so important to me and I know that through God's plan it is possible for families to be eternal. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I love being a part of the church and serving the community and others who are in need. Service is a huge part of the church and I love the way I feel when I serve others. I have had several different responsibilities in the church throughout my entire life where I have been able to serve and teach others. I have taught young children and been able to help them learn about Christ and how to follow his example. I feel that one of the most valuable things we can learn and understand in our life is that God and Jesus love us and they want the very best for us. They love us with a perfect unconditional love. I try to emulate that type of love in the life that I live. In the church I have served with friends and been able to learn and grow with them. The opportunities to follow the Savior's example of love and service are endless within the church.
