Hi I'm Yvonne

I live in the Northwest. I'm a convert, served a mission in Italy, married for 31 years; 5 children, 3 adorable grandkids!

About Me

I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles in the 1970's where there were gangs and drugs both in Middle and High school. I learned to survive stressful situations. I was born a Catholic and I have always had a strong belief in God, and in prayer. I don't remember ever missing attending church as a young girl, even when my parents did not attend. As a young child I found great joy in the simple things in life. I loved caring for little children, creating things with my hands and learning from the wisdom of parents and grandparents. This has not changed for me in my adulthood. I continue to love learning new skills and creating things and the simple things in life bring me great joy. I love being a Mother and Grandmother and I enjoy traveling to visit friends and family. I find my greatest joy in overcoming things and feeling like there is progress in my life. I enjoy exercise including swimming, nutrition, sewing, cooking and other hand crafts and gatherings with family and friends. I love people intensely and greatly value my connections with those whom I love. I Love serving the youth and have savored my calling as a Seminary Teacher teaching the youth the Gospel at 6am Monday through Fridays.

Why I am a Mormon

I first connected with a member of the LDS Church when I was 9 years old. I did not know of her faith, but I knew that there was something very special about her. She had a light about her that was unique. She was outgoing and friendly and I was shy and introverted. I admired her qualities. Three years later in Junior High we reconnected and became best of friends. We did everything together from being candy stripers to leading the drill team. My self worth grew from her friendship . We had many conversations about our beliefs. She was well informed and helpful. I remember walking home one day and something that was said clicked in my brain and in my heart and I knew that the Church was true. I was frightened to tell my family, for I knew that this would rock tradition and cause a stir in my family! I decided to live the standards of the church and keep my feelings to myself. I did this for a year or so until I felt so hypocritical that I could no longer contain myself. After setting deadlines for myself I told both my friend and my father with whom I could speak to about such matters. My father was distraught and saddened by the news and finally asked me to wait until I was 18 years of age. I promised him that I would do so and I attended the Catholic church faithfully for the next 2 years and saved my tithing in my wallet. In the meantime I was able to read the Book of Mormon and I fell in love with the book. I knew that it was true! It changed my life! A new and greater spirit entered my life and I knew that there was no turning back. I continued to read and study until the day of my baptism. While attending the University of Southern California, On December 23, 1976 I was baptized. It was the most joyous day of my life! It has been the greatest decision for good that I have made in my life. it has brought me to all of the other happiness that I continue to experience.

How I live my faith

Since my baptism in 1976, I was able to serve an 18 month mission in Italy teaching the Gospel and watching people's lives change for good. Soon after my mission I was in an accident and thrown through the back windshield of a volkswagon 'bug'. I suffered many severe lacerations to my face and was in shock for 24 hours. I was in bed for several weeks and had 5 hours of surgery on my face. Through the Power of the Priesthood i was miraculously healed and suffered no permanent debilitating injuries. The doctors were astonished. I then completed my Bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University in Elementary Education. Just before graduating, I was married in the Los Angeles temple tp Brent S. Byers. After 25 years, I renewed my Teaching Certificate in Utah and Certified in Washington state. I have served as a Missionary, Temple worker, youth leader, teacher and leader of the young children and as a Cub scout leader. I have also served training the Spanish and Portuguese women in the women's organization. I am currently serving as an Early Morning Seminary Teacher for Youth ages 14 through 18. I love serving in the church. I have overcome many inadequacies as I have placed my trust in my Heavenly Father and in my Savior. I know that with the Savior in our lives we can overcome All things! I continue to marvel that everything that I continue to learn reaffirms to me of the rightness of my decision so many years ago. My greatest joy is in serving my family as a mother, wife and grandmother. I must say that I believe in Miracles and I have experienced many in my life!
