Hi I'm Mike Porter

I am a husband & a father of five. I love the outdoors. I am a contractor. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I attended high school in Japan while my father was working there. I then returned for two more years as a missionary. I learned many wonderful lessons from the Japanese people. They are very industrious, loyal, kind and have a great reverence for their family. When I returned to the States, I met my wife through a friend that "set-up" the date. We have 2 daughters and 3 sons. Because I have always liked the building process, I studied & graduated from college with a degree in Construction Management. I worked for several years as a building superintendent before starting my own drywall company. I'm one of the few people that actually enjoy yard work. I love the smell of freshly cut green grass & the beauty of nature. I wish that desserts contained all our necessary daily nutrients.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I was raised a Mormon I had to discover for myself if it was really true. The doctrine that we all have an equal chance to hear and except Christ's teachings has always been a testimony builder for me. I knew that if this church was to be true it would have to include everyone in the world, and it does. I am so glad to be able to follow Christ's example and strive to live my life in such a way as to serve others as he did. I struggle just like everyone else to avoid the tempations that come because of the weakness of the "natural man". I have found that I am the most happy in my life when I am obeying the commandments, and looking for ways to serve my family and others before myself. I love being a Mormon and the direction it gives me in my life and the happiness it has brought to my family.

How I live my faith

I try to look for ways to help others each and every day, even if it is in the most simple ways. I strive to support my family and be honest in my dealings with others. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ I know I can overcome all trials and challenges that may come in my life. My faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings, allows me to live without crippling fear of what my happen to me and my family. I know life may not always be easy and turn out the way we expect, but they will turn out for the better in the long run if we remain faithful in living Christ's teachings. My whole life is centered around my family and I would be nothing without them.
