Hi I'm Roscoe

I am a swimmer, an older brother, a crazy teenager and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a great and active outdoors-man and am almost done with my eagle scout. I work as a lifeguard with the local pools. I am a Sr. in high school and part of 3 school clubs and swim team captain. I plan on going to collage and gain the education necessary to become a demolitions expert. I make it a point to ride my bike everyday and find new places as I go. I go to seminary everyday before school riding my bike with other friends and we call it the "Mormon bike train." I am a priest in my ward and have separate responsibilities that take a lot of my time as a result. I love working hard, waking up early and have a nasty habit of being a smart-mouth

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church so my knowledge on how other religions, families or social groups work and what they are like has been limited. That started to stop as a got a job and started going to high school. As I look around me and talk to other people I began to realize how awesome my life really is and as I continue through life I see all that God has given me and I also realize that would all go away if I stopped being who I am. I guess what I'm saying is that without the church I would be lost as to who I am and why every day is a good one, that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am a priest in the church and so I have to do a few extra things I need to do on top of our weekly 3 hour church meetings. There are very few times when I wake up and think "crap I got to go to meetings" or "dang it! I can't eat cuz I'm fasting today" because of the feelings that I get that tell me I am doing the right thing. I also go to seminary every week day so I can continually feel that peace as I go to my everyday activities and it simply makes me happy. I have been prepping to go on a two year unpaid mission to spread the Gospel since I was a 10 year old and now that I'm 18 I still will do it and I still save my money so I can better serve The Lord. If you were to look at personality you would say "that is a guy that has a lot of fun and must have a lot of time to mess around" but if you look at my life you would see a young adult with allot on his plate. I live the gospel of Jesus Christ as closely as I can and when I talk to people they ask me why I'm always so happy and every time I feel good to say "it's because I am a good Mormon"

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Roscoe
Well I'd say that if we are to follow the example of Jesus Christ let us give unto "Caesar that which is Caesar" (St. Mark 12;13-17) When Christ was on the Earth he asked for no payment for his service. Christ said that as "we have done unto the least of these my brothers ye have done it unto me" (St. Mathew 25;40) In the Book of Mormon we are taught "that as you are in the service of your fellow being you are only in the service of your God" (Mosiah 2;17) We believe that church work is service to God. To us serving our God is reward enough. That and having an unpaid clergy prompts other people to serve with no thought of reward. Our church is a church of service. Show more Show less
