Hi I'm Katie

I have the best job in the world. I am a stay at home mom and have eight beautiful children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My job is the very best anyone could have. I have been entrusted to raise eight of Heavenly Father's children to be productive members of society. It's not an easy job. Sometimes it's frustrating, and often very tiring. My house is rarely spotless and is almost never quiet. My day is filled with diapers, laundy, cooking and cleaning. It's sounds exciting doesn't it?! Well actually it is. There is nothing more exciting than to hear a seven year old little girl tell how she was able to comfort a friend at school, or a thirteen year old boy tell how he shared a principle of the gospel with a friend not a member of our faith. It's exciting to hear my two year old say his prayers, or peek in at my nine year old at bed time and see him reading his scriptures. I am so grateful I get to be a mother!

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a member of this church. I grew up in a single parent household. My mom worked very hard to provide for my brother and I. She always made sure we went to church. This is where I learned about my Father in Heaven. I learned in Sunday School, that I am a child of God. We sang songs and had lessons that taught me to choose the right. When I became a teenager I learned in my young womens' class how to withstand peer preasure and how to serve others. Now that I am grown, I attend womens' classes and learn about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how to teach my children important gospel lessons. I have trials, just like other people. I have lost babies due to miscarriage, and have children with severe health issues. Our family has struggled financially when out of work, and our teenagers sometimes make poor choices that bring heartache and disappointment. I am so grateful at those times to have the knowledge that I have a loving Father in Heaven who knows my name. He knows how what I am going through, and most importantly He knows how to comfort me. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has taught me how to ask for help and how to receive answers through prayer.

How I live my faith

I serve as a helper at cub scouts and Sunday school for a 9 year old boy with Down's Syndrome. I love being a part of his life. I have learned to look at the world through the eye's of this sweet young man. I serve at an area level for the cubscouts to help coordinate daycamps and pinewood derbies and run roundtables for the packs. I also work with the adults to help them with their emergency preparedness. Each week I send out a list of sale items at the local grocery stores so that they can strech their dollar a little bit farther and store items they might need in case of emergency whether it be a natural disaster or unemployment. I also teach them in classes and on a blog about ways to store food and water, money saving tips, simple inexpensive recipes and how to make a 3 day emergency kit. There is a cannery in my area where I help coordiante members to can and store goods for long periods of time, such as wheat, oats and flour. I love serving in the church. It brings me satisfaction in knowing that I am important in the work of the Lord.
