Hi I'm Ben

I am a husband, a father, a graduate student and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am proud to have been married 8 years this year to my beautiful wife. We have a daughter who turns 2 soon. I have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I am a doctoral student studying rehabilitation counseling. I enjoy my studies but I enjoy more spending time with my family. We like to go camping when we can. Just about anything outdoors is exciting. As a young man I lived in Argentina for 2 years where I served a proselyting mission. There I enjoyed learning Spanish and about people different from me. When I finish my studies I hope to get a job as a college professor.

Why I am a Mormon

I enjoy truth and happiness. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I find an unending source of both. My ancestors back in the late 1800's joined the church and my family have been members since. At the age of 19, as an 8th generation member of the church , I decided that I needed to know if the church and the Book of Mormon were true for myself. After reading a passage in the Book of Mormon I knelt and asked Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon and the church were true. Upon asking I felt a calm warm feeling in my chest. Any thoughts of doubt that I may have had seemed to leave me. I have since come to know this feeling as it has come to me from time to time when I see, hear, or read something that is good and true. That feeling makes me happy. I experience that feeling often as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

My college studies keep me busy writing and researching, however I strive to read the scriptures daily. I love to read from the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and words of the modern prophets. Because of my struggles with ADHD and other everyday challenges, I feel I need all of the help and confidence I can get so I make it a point to pray to Heavenly Father every day and ask for the things I need. Every Sunday I teach a class to 8 year old children about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This year we are learning about the New Testament in the Bible. Even though I am the teacher I learn a lot from these children. During the week I enjoy going with the missionaries, when I have a few minutes, and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people who are not familiar with our faith. It makes me feel good to share my beliefs. These things help me to focus better on my college studies. On Monday nights before I have to go to class my wife and my daughter and I sit down and sing, read scriptures, and pray together. To members of the church this is known as family home evening. We try to do this each Monday as it helps us to be together as a family and to learn the gospel together.
