Hi I'm Heidi
I am a stay at home mom with 6 children. I love going on weekly dates with my husband and teaching piano lessons. In my free time I enjoy reading books and doing learning activities with my kids, playing games, blogging, and reading historical fiction. I find biology fascinating and took a Microbiology course in college just for fun. I also like saving money... I'd rather hang out at the library than the mall:).
Why I am a Mormon
I was privileged to be raised in a family where my parents loved each other and taught us to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Although I was taught from the scriptures as a young child, when I was a teenager, I began reading both the Bible and the Book of Mormon regularly on my own. I felt the love that the Lord had for me personally, particularly following one night of studying the Book of Mormon as I prayed. I have had many experiences since than that have reconfirmed my faith in the teachings of the restored gospel found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know that God still speaks through his apostles and prophets on the earth today and I look forward to the chance I have to hear their words at each General Conference.
How I live my faith
I have enjoyed the variety of service opportunities I have had serving in lay positions in the church. Some of my favorites include playing the piano for choir, leading the singing time for children, coordinating humanitarian aide projects, teaching lessons at church in the Women's organization, and planning character based activities for the 8-9 year old girls. But, some of the most rewarding faith filled moments for me happen in our home, when I get to hear my children offer a sincere prayer, listen to them tell a scripture story in their own words for our weekly family night, sing hymns together as a family around the piano, or kneel together with my husband in daily prayer. I feel especially close to God when I read the scriptures and listen to sacred music. I love to play the hymns on the piano or violin and ponder the meaning of the words. A few of my favorite hymns are "How Great Thou Art" "Come, Come Ye Saints" and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing"
