Hi I'm Lahela

I'm a Hawaiian girl who married a haole boy from Utah. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, daughter, sister, and aunt. I met my husband at Sears Auto Center after he fixed my car. I was bitten by the travel bug a long time ago and have visited or driven through 40 of the states in the US and visited many countries. My husband and I take road trips for fun and have visited over 15 LDS Temples together. I am a Gold Award Girl Scout. I have an international palette and cook really good enchiladas, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken katsu and Spanish paella. I love to make my own home decor to beautify our house or give to others- Orson Gygi and the Hobby Lobby are referred to as "my happy places." I work full time as a counselor for our church. Education is extremely important to me: I am a BYU and soon-to-be Utah State University alum. I have a beautiful home and a happy marriage.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church. My mother took me and my siblings to Church by herself for years before my father accepted the gospel. I still remember the day my dad got baptized, and one year later when we were sealed in the temple as a family. I will never forget my stake president (a religious leader in our church) telling me that next to the temple, our home was the holiest place on earth and that we could be an eternal family if we treated each other as if we wanted to be with each other forever. Jesus Christ is my Savior and I know that it is because of His Atonement that I can repent for my mistakes, move on, and continue to progress in this life. I am not doing everything perfectly in life, and that's ok because God loves me for who I am. I love my husband and I am grateful I can be with him forever. Heaven wouldn't be heaven without my husband, or the rest of my family and friends. I experience comfort and peace from praying to my Heavenly Father and receiving personal revelation for my life. I know that any loss, injustice or imperfection in life can be rectified in the eternities and that life continues after our earthly experience.

How I live my faith

I work as a rehabilitation counselor for our church at thrift store called Deseret Industries (DI). Our church leaders refer members of our church to this program for employment training, and rehabilitation services. These services are funded by the donations sold in our stores. Miracles happen regularly to the people who come to DI to learn self reliance. I have witnessed many people obtain their first job after months of training and breaking down employment barriers, overcoming personal trials, and managing difficult aspects of various disabilities. I also serve as an employment specialist in my ward (local church congregation). I believe Heavenly Father has given me the skills to help people find joy in work and providing for their family. Work is a big part of who I am.
