Hi I'm Mervan

I'm a pianist, arranger, and singer. I am in school to become a pharmacist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single college student, living at home. I enjoy all varieties of music, especially oldies. I like to do social and ballroom dancing. I love to go hiking, especially in weird canyons and dramatic mountains. I've had some different jobs, such as being a city microfilmer, elections clerk, city archives worker, delivery driver, school cafeteria worker, handyman, and a little bit of landscaping.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents have all been members of the Church. I have been taught by word and example all through my childhood and youth. When I was a teenager, I began a deeper study of the scriptures (the Bible and especially the Book of Mormon) and my soul became a sponge for all the wonderful truth I learned. I was amazed at how well everything in God's plan fit together, and how much hope, happiness, and blessings are available to us. As I continued in my life, going to church, reading, praying, I never had any dramatic experiences, but I always felt something in me, an assurance that everything I was learning was right, that this was the right path for me. One time, when I was going through a difficult time because of some poor choices I made, I was praying, and I had a definite feeling of warmth and love, like a hug. That was a point where I really knew that God lives and that He loves me. Even when I felt unworthy of His love, He still wanted to show me that He cares. Because of that, I have always wanted to serve Him and do what He wants me to, including serving in His church and staying loyal to it and the inspired leaders He has chosen. I know that my understanding will continue to grow as I continue to study, pray, and do what is right.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunites to serve in the Church. From my teenage years, I have been the main organist in whichever congregation I attend. I have been in many church choirs also. I have been a secretary for the men's organization, and I've been a clerk to assist with membership records. I have always had an assignment to visit certain members regularly to share an inspirational message, to see how they are their families are doing physically, and to report to church leaders if there is any assistance needed. I also served full-time as a proselyting missionary in West Africa, teaching a wide variety of people the truths I've learned, and also helped them improve their job and school situations. Apart from assignments given by the church, I participate in community service projects, and try to be helpful and polite to any person I meet. I'm not perfect in my charity and patience, but I'm striving to continually improve as a follower of Jesus Christ.
