Hi I'm Valerie.

I grew up in the inner city of St. Paul. I attended the Lamanite Branch in Minneapolis. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the projects in the inner city of St. Paul in a single-parent home. Today I am a wife, a stay at home mom of three active children, a registered nurse, AND I am a graduate student at Lesley University. How does one grow up in the projects and get to where I am at now? Believe me it was a long and arduous road, but I wouldn't have made it this far without faith in Jesus Christ and in Heavenly Father's plan of happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized at eight and I can still remember the burning in my young heart I felt when I heard the gospel. Our family was inactive and the missionaries taught me about Heavenly Father's plan of happiness. Life was not always easy for me or my family. Poverty, alcoholism, and inactivity took its toll on our family yet, the messages about the love Heavenly Father has for each of his children that I heard in my youth sustained me through my own trials through young adulthood. My continued growth in the gospel of Jesus Christ only intensified when I became married to a wonderful young man. I knew then that if we were to be blessed with children, I wanted them to know about the love that Heavenly Father has for all of His children. It was this knowledge that helped me through the darkest hours of my life and helped me to have deep gratitude during happiest hours of my life.

How I live my faith

I am very involved in my community and in my ward. In the community I am a member of a grass roots organization that is helping to preserve a Native American burial site, I am a delegate of a particular political party and I volunteer at each of my children's schools. What can I say? Life is never dull. In the church I am a family history consultant. I help other people with their genealogical research while I work on my own. I recently discovered the true name of the man my ancestor Glory of the Morning married, Joseph Descaris, very exciting! This name has origins in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I am learning that my ancestors lives were never dull either.
