Hi I'm Rachel Hicks

I burst at the seams with energy. I love people and I'm pretty outgoing. Life never ceases to be exciting. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a chemistry and history double major in college and I just completed my junior year. I love to run, cook, and sing. I find myself pretty busy so every once in a while I go to the park to play on the swings to relax and enjoy nature. I love socializing. I find talking to people to be so wonderful. I love being involved with the church, which keeps me super busy too! My friends and I are often found baking, adventuring in the outdoors, watching movies, or at church! Everything seems to be a big production in my life as I am very easily excited. For example, I love food and get very excited about eating. As a result if we are in class together in the morning I will probably tell you twice how excited I am for what I am making for dinner! My family is also very important to me and I try to make time to support and serve them. I recently decided to serve a mission for the church and will be taking a break from school and my family to serve in Brisbane, Australia for eighteen months. I find my identity in the things I do, the feelings I have, and in the knowledge that I am a daughter of God.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know it is Christ's church here on the earth and the way for me to be happy in this life and live with my family in the next. I feel that the church is true and contains the fullness of Christ's gospel. I have complete faith in our ability to receive revelation from God. Being a member of the church feels right. Not because of social functions but because I have felt a confirmation from God that it is the way He has provided for us to learn and grow in this life and receive the knowledge and experience we need to gain so that we can return to live with Him. The gospel allows me to fully access the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know that I am not perfect and because of Christ's sinless life and resurrection we can be made clean of sin and be strengthened daily. The priesthood, or authority to act in God's name, has been restored here on the earth through Joseph Smith. Through the priesthood, I can to make covenants with God by participating in priesthood ordinances, such as Baptism, partaking of the Sacrament, and entering into marriage. I have found that the desires of my heart have been explained and fulfilled by the Gospel of Christ. He leads and guides me daily. He also guides leads and guides the church through revelation to our living prophet Thomas S. Monson. As I choose to follow Him I feel happy. When I choose to do things that lead me a way from God I feel less satisfied and sad. The experiences I have had with choosing my path have made me choose to be a Mormon. My family is divided. Some are active members of the church and some are not. From a young age it has always been my choice to follow God, and by being Mormon I feel I am following Him as He has instructed and in the fullest way possible.

How I live my faith

I really feel to be fully devoted to something we must act! Feelings are expressed through action frequently in my life. I love the gospel and my Savior Jesus Christ. I read my scriptures daily and pray frequently so that I show this love to God and allow Him to be more fully in my life as I seek Him. I also try to heed his council. We are believe that we need to serve our fellow men and that we also need to grow and develop our own knowledge and talents. The church has many programs and opportunities that make this easier. I attend institute, a religious class held weekly; teach Sunday school; and help organize Young Single Adult activities in the area. The most recent event that I helped with was an awesome Valentines day dance. Serving in the church is very important to me and a big part of my life. I feel a deep kindred-ship with my local congregation and I am thankful for the opportunity I have to express this by serving in the church. Large scale service is important but it is also important to be kind and loving and serve everyone. I try to be a good neighbor in my neighborhood, a thoughtful fellow student, and a friend to everyone. I try to ask myself what would Christ have me do today so that I can help someone? Sometimes it's a plate of cookies or inviting someone to a dinner party. Other times its being a listening ear, carrying in someone's groceries, or sharing my joy in the truth I have found. But, regardless of the action, it involves being willing. I try to live my faith by being willing to serve God and my brothers and sisters. In all that I do I try to hearken to the council of God and really feel that he has guided and directed my life. By following His plan, my soul has been enlarged and my capacity to feel increased. My joy has been made full through the trials that have proven me! I am so excited to be able to go and share it full time as a missionary.
