Hi I'm Ashley

I love reading and writing stories but I love my family more than anything. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary for the LDS church, and I'm serving in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission. I enjoy correlating history as the world knows it with the history we see in the scriptures - adding things up and figuring out who is who is just so fascinating to me!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church, so I don’t really have any “wow” conversion story, but a particular thing comes to mind when I think of how I gained my testimony. My grandma came to visit one time, and we got to talking about a series of books she was reading called The Great and Terrible by Chris Stewart. I read the first two, and then I had to read the rest. So I did. It’s basically about four siblings who were sent to Earth and had to overcome all the evils of the world. It shows perception on both sides of the veil, and it really made me understand that Satan and his followers ARE real and they ARE evil. I’d never really been able to grasp that before. And if there’s evil, there’s good, too, which means that Heavenly Father would have to be real, too. That may seem small to some people, but after I read that series, it made me want to do more of the right thing, because I want to live with God again.

How I live my faith

I always want to follow the plan that Heavenly Father has planned for me. I know that He knows best, and He knows me better than anyone - He knows exactly what will help me to grow in the best way possible. Having that sure trust made it a lot easier to make the firm decision to follow His plan when He told me that I needed to serve a mission!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Ashley
All young men of the Church are called to go on missions; it is the same way they are called to hold the priesthood, in that they have to be willing to work to get there. Both are necessary for men to reach their full potential. Young women are invited to serve, but not necessarily required in the same manner that young men are. It is our belief that young women have a calling to become mothers and nurturers in the family. Sometimes though, young women such as myself feel that desire to serve, so getting married may be held off because of it. But, anyone who desires to and is worthy to can serve a mission for the Church. Show more Show less
