Hi I'm Russell

I was born and raised in AZ. I love to play guitar and piano. I'm a distance runner and an athlete. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I don't know what boredom is - I haven't experienced it since I was a kid. I always find something to do, whether it be family time, sports, music, reading, etc. I am the third child of four, and I love spending time with my family (chatting, playing games, watch a movie, swimming, sports, hiking/camping). I love my dad's amazing Sunday dinners and sitting down to eat with my family. I graduated high school in 2010 and will start college in 2012 when I finish serving a 2-year mission. I'm looking forward to lots of college, and might enter the dental field. I have been playing the piano ever since I was six or so, and like every other kid, I wanted to quit when it got tough. My mom wasn't like any other mom, though - she diligently pushed me to learn, and I will be eternally grateful for that. I most often play at church, which is a great joy to me. I also picked up the guitar some years back. I also love to sing. I know what it's like to find great joy in hard work. I ran cross country and track through high school, and will probably be a long distance runner my whole life. Long distance running requires diligent, consistent effort to succeed. Some days I just want to sit around and rest, but whenever I run a good race, I'm grateful I pushed past those natural tendancies. I all aspects of life, I do my best to go the extra mile.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I have two wonderful parents who know the same thing and taught me about the restored gospel as a child. I do not doubt that they knew it. My parents truly lived the doctrine, and allowed me opportunities to learn and do the same. I have lived the doctrine, and have experienced the blessings of the Spirit in my life, therefore I know it to be true. Growing up, I went to church, read the scriptures, prayed personally and with my family, participated in church activities, and loved it, but I never really asked in prayer if it was all true. I did that a few years ago. When I did, and every time I've done it since, I felt a feeling of warmth, peace, and comfort that I haven't really found anywhere else. It is truly a powerful experience having truth confirmed by a feeling that can only come from a loving Father in Heaven. I had a really wonderful experience one time when I suddenly came to the realization that my family would be together for a really long time - for eternity. When my mind caught hold of that thought, it filled my system with light. I think back on all the wonderful moments I've shared with my family, and it brings me joy knowing that those won't end at death. That is power and knowledge that can only come through the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. That is why I am a Mormon and will always be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by always trying my best to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I try to acquire and show Christlike attributes to help others feel God's love through me. I do my best to look for service opportunities so I can show my faith and help others. In high school, I joined a service club and participated in numerous service activities. I can recall sweet memories of doing yard service for neighbors and friends. I spent a long time as a Boy Scout of America, and had a great time participating in many service projects. I also live my faith by trying my best in everything I do, and turning to the Lord for guidance and strength. I'm not perfect, but I try to live what I believe.
