Hi I'm Garrick

I'm the fifth of eight children born and raised in Utah. I'm a Marine. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a missionary-soon to be college student once again. I like to do the unexpected and the unusual, a trip to the Philippines with friends or hiking a mountain at 1 a.m. in the middle of winter just to say i did it. I like to keep it fresh. Long boarding and dirt biking are a few skills i want to improve just because. I've learned that i love to learn even though it hurts my head. Things like piano and books seemed to be catching my interest more and more often. I like to go bowling, and its actually pretty fun if you go with people who know how to bowl. I'm big on sports i played some baseball and football growing up and wrestled in high school, however, I don't claim any sports as my own I just like them all. I joined the Marine Corps straight out of high school at age 17 as a Scout. However i feel i did the smart thing and joined the reserves. The big reason was so that i could go on an LDS Mission and go to school and yet be a Marine all at the same time. I did a tour in Iraq in 2009 and did a semester at Utah Valley University. Shortly after that i left on my mission where i currently serve at the Bulgaria Sofia/Turkey Mission. After my mission i plan on going to Brigham Young University and studying in Business. The future is crazy though you never know whats going to happen.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints however, my family life isn't what you would call a typical "Mormon family". Only half of my family are active members and only three of us have served a mission. I've come to realize the importance of church early in my life. I've seen both ends of the stick and having good parents that have taught me the gospel I've been able to make the right choices while seeing the adversity. I'm a Mormon because this Gospel gives me peace and answers to all of my questions. It gives me hope for the future which is something i believe every person needs to have. For me there is no other way that makes sense, in the long run, other then the teachings of Christ.

How I live my faith

Staying active in the church and going on a mission have been a big blessing to me and i know will help me throughout the rest of my life. The Book of Mormon has given me strength and motivation to continue on when really, i didn't want to. I live my life day to day trying to do the best that i can with whats given to me. I know God has a plan for each of us and that if we do what we are suppose to and live according to the teachings of the Gospel then we can be that person that God has prepared for each of us to be which is the best thing that we are capable of becoming.
