Hi I'm Matías Gaete

I live in Chile. I'm an EFL Teacher trainee. I'm a guitar player. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Matías. I live in Chile. I was born near the countryside so I've always loved nature and simple things such as taking a long walk or watching the setting of the sun over the hills. I started playing guitar when I got into high school and been playing since then. I love to teach! I just love the idea of helping someone to see that their only limits are the ones they set on themselves and help them become the best they can. I served a mission in San Fernando, California.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church and knew a lot about it, but then came a time in my early teens when I felt alone and misunderstood. I was the only member of the church in my high school for a time and to live righteously was harder and harder each time. I saw many times how other members felt and knew how the church is true, that Jesus lives, the Book of Mormon is another true testament of Christ, and all those things, but I never knew or felt for myself. So in the moment when the biggest challenges confronted me, I decided to ask my Heavenly Father about everything I knew in that moment. As I asked throughout a couple of days, I started to find answers to ALL my questions and then I felt an incredible sense of peace that assured me that what I was doing was right, that His Church was restored by Joseph Smith, that The Book of Mormon IS indeed Another testament of Jesus Christ, and that we have a Heavenly Father that loves us and cares for what we do. Because of His love for us, He has prepared a plan where we can prepare ourselves to live with our families forever in His presence. Eternal life is to live in the family unit forever

How I live my faith

I've always been involved in working with youth. I'm not too different from them, and because there isn't a big age difference between us I can relate a lot more with struggles they face, such as friend's influence and election, music, dressing, TV shows, internet, and so on. I've felt how they appreciate that counsel in these days where the ways of God and the ways of the world are separating more and more each time. Where I was raised, since there weren't a lot of members, it was difficult to make a decision to follow the gospel by myself, but when I moved to go to college and started attending church over there I saw how much easier becomes to the youth to stay strong against temptation when they make decisions as a group, thus having an inmediate support group. Sharing my experiences with them and seeing that they want to do what is right increases my will to stay true to what I know to be true

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Matías Gaete
While we don't know the exact location of His appearance, we do know that He came and taught people His gospel. This event is not only seen and testified in the scriptures, but it's also seen through many different mesoamerican cultures, calling him by different names. Even though there are some aspects that differ between those ancient civilizations, they all point towards the same event and demonstrates that there was a great event that took place and influenced all the people of that area of the world: that the Son of God came and that He'd come again one day. Even though there is archaeological evidence of this, and more comes up with time, we do not rely on evidence to believe this. We know that Christ came to the ancient Americas to visit His "other sheep" to show them His love for mankind. And if you're not sure about it, you can read the account of this visit in the Book of Mormon and always ask God, in the name of Jesus Christ, if these things are true or not, and by the power of the Holy Ghost you will receive a "witness", a confirmation to your mind and heart that these things are true Show more Show less
