Hi I'm John

I live in Canada. My life has been full as a husband and father. I have been very happy living and serving as a Mormon.

About Me

I am a professional engineer working as a project manager in a consulting firm in the Oil and Gas industry. I enjoy playing many sports and have been rock climbing with my family over the past 5 years. We have climbed in many different areas in Canada, Utah, California and Arizona. I also enjoy wood working and have completed many handy man projects at home including, partially finishing the basement, building a concrete deck and a couple of paving stone landscaping areas. I especially enjoy spending time with my family during the Christams season, usually in warmer California. I have had many church callings and have learned a lot serving with different members of the LDS church.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon home and so was exposed to all aspects of Mormon life, from family home evening, to family prayers, to home teaching, to church meetings and activities. Praying with questions and having personal spiritual experiences and then acting in faith on those experiences is the foundation of why I am a Mormon. Personal spiritual experiences have resulted in me chosing to serve a mission, be married in the temple, serving faithfully as a home teacher and accepting all the church callings that have been given. When I have personal spiritual experiences I am confident that acting on them will be in my best interest, though it may result in sacrifices and hardship.

How I live my faith

Living my faith begins everyday with reading the Book of Mormon and having family prayer. This frames my day and is a reminder that God loves us and that He and my family are the most important things. This helps me maintain perspective as I go work to provide for my family. In the evenings, much of my time is spent doing church service, planning activities, visiting people, supporting people that have challenges. It is amazing to see how God can direct everyday people to bring about miracles in other people's lives and I have been able to see many miracles. I am currently serving as a Bishop in a young single adult ward for people between the ages of 18 to 31. This is a very dynamic group that is faced with many of the most important decisions in their lives. I have come to know that God really loves them and wants their lives to be full of goodness and free from the bondage of addictions and sin. Serving in the church has helped me improve my character as well. I am more loving, patient and kind now than I was a younger person. I like the type of person that I am becoming.
