Hi I'm Russ

I am a retired fire fighter EMT. lived 46 years in upstate New York I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 5 and a grandfather of 16. My youngest son was killed at 28 yrs. old. I witnessed his death. I was in the emergency services system for 30 years. I also was a builder of homes and a repairman. I drove school buses for 16yrs. part time. I can repair almost anything that is broken from wood to electronics. I like to make things functional again. I fly R/C airplanes as a hobby when I have time. I am a musician/singer. I sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for about 9 years. I play the guitar, trumpet, recorder, and some piano. I love good music of most types. I ran a 5mile race in 35:42 minutes when I was about 40. I still run but not as far or as fast. I like most foods including international types and like to try new things. My bucket list would include hang gliding and sky diving if I could go solo. I like old aircraft. One of my favorites would be the F4-U from WWII. I attend airshows as much as possible. I like camping and backpacking. I prefer being outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

My wife and I joined the church together in 1974. I was raised a Presbyterian and she a Methodist. We were young parents of two children and were looking for something more fulfilling than the work/party life we were living. We were searching the scriptures and other faiths looking for "truth". We attended the Hill Cumorah Pageant and listened to the sister missionaries before the production. We bought a book of Mormon and considered Moroni's challenge. Soon afterward we met the missionaries in our home and took the lessons. After some weeks, I felt it was time to decide and the only way I could do that in good faith was to pray about it as they were always asking me to to. I did and the rest is, as they say, history. We have been fully active since.

How I live my faith

I strive to be as much like Jesus Christ as I can. I am limited like all of us but I do try to overcome the "natural" man. I have held many callings (positions) in the church over the years. As a teacher of young men, looking after the Sunday school program at the local level, presiding (with two others) over a local congregation, serving on a larger area (called a stake) board, singing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and anything else the Lord, through his leaders has asked me to do. I visit members in their homes to provide encouragement and guidance when asked for. I have been in charge of all building issues in the stake including watching over the construction of two new buildings on behalf of the Stake President. Mostly I just try to be what the Lord wants me to be. I hope to serve a mission in a couple of years. I am watching over an elderly mother-in-law now and must wait until that is completed. I watch for the signs of our Savior's return.
