Hi I'm Brooks

I'm a retired Army officer. I'm a retired Special Ed teacher. I'm a husband, father and grandfather. and I'm happy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as an "Army Brat", went to West Point, and served in the Field Artillery for 23 years, retiring in 1992. I then became a Special Education teacher/admininstrator in San Antonio, Texas. I retired from that in 2009. I am married with two daughters - both happily married. I love to read (Westerns), listen to music (classic rock and jazz), and travel. My wife, Martha, and I just returned from serving a Mission for the church at the Family and Church History Headquarters Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. There we helped people work on their personal family history. I love my wife, my family, my Church, and my life.

Why I am a Mormon

When Martha and I were living in Germany, our daughters were young and we felt a desire to start attending church. We were both Christians, but did not attend church on a regular basis. We attended the nondenominational church on Post, but felt unfulfilled. Then one day two young missionaries from the church knocked on our door and met with Martha - she happened to be doing some family history work. During the coming months, the missionaries taught us the principals of the gospel. I was drawn to the knowledge that families could be together forever, and that we are here on earth for a reason - not just to exist and die. I also liked the way all members were involved in the church - you didn't just go to church and go back home. in December of 1985, Martha and I were baptized into the church. Our lives have been truly blessed as a result of that wonderful decision. I know there is a Heavenly Father who loves me and that his Son, Jesus Christ, suffered and died for me - and was resurrected. I know that His gospel and His church has been restored again to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that we are led by a prophet today who receives revelation from our Heavenly Father. I know that we are here on earth to find joy. I know that will have joy eternally if we will live the Gospel as best we can, repent when we sin, and seek the help of our Father in Heaven when we face challenges. If we do that, we will live forever with our families.

How I live my faith

I try to follow the commandments every day. And when I falter, I repent and try again, for I know that Jesus Christ is there to help me when I stumble. Having just returned from our Mission in Salt Lake City, Martha and I are anxiously waiting for our next calling. Martha and I are the Home Teachers for a single sister who lives about 30 miles away. We visit her every month to leave a Gospel message and tend to her needs. Prior to our Mission I served as an administrator for the church assisting one of our local church leaders organize his meetings, etc. I did that for about 6 years - it was a wonderful experience. I love serving, and I love the knowledge that life has a purpose, and that there is still more to come after we die
