Hi I'm Shellie

I grew up on an organic dairy farm in Minnesota. I write my own songs. I love trees. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I play the guitar and being able to pick it up, strum a few chords, and write lyrics is the ultimate form of expression for me. Growing up on a farm in Minnesota, I was able to learn how to drive when I was 4 years old (sitting on my dad's lap of course). I also got the chance to trap gophers which was my summer job for three years. Growing up on a farm also meant growing up in a small community where there were hardly any other LDS families. And by hardly, I mean none. My sister and I were the only Mormons in our school. We learned at an early age that we must never faulter in our testimonies, for we were the only example of the church some people knew. I'm going to BYU-Idaho this winter and I am SO excited!

Why I am a Mormon

I recently went through a rough time in my life. I felt so unwanted in every aspect of my life that I just decided to give up on church. Last year, I could count the times I went to church and it was in the single digits. I felt so alone and hopeless. Then I met some friends within the church who made me realize that I was important and Heavenly Father loved me. I started to look forward to going to church (which was especially odd because our sessions started at 9am). I started to actually read my scriptures - something that never happened before. I started saying daily prayers. I started joint teaching with the missionaries. And that's when I regained my own testimony. Through reading the Book of Mormon, Bible, and praying daily about this church, I have come to know that it is true. There's no way that one man could have written the Book of Mormon. There are truths within this church that I have had to rely on to get me through other difficult times. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I have never been happier in my whole life.

How I live my faith

I am part of an organization called Young Single Adults (YSA). We get together for different activities through out the week to strengthen ourselves within the church while having a great time with each other. I also am in charge of creating lessons for young girls ages 8-11 to develop their talents and learn more about the gospel. It is so much fun working with these young women because they have such a sweet innocence to them! I know for a fact I learn more from them than they learn from me. I also live my faith by posting things on social media websites about my religion. I have developed a huge love for missionary work! Hopefully one day I will be able to serve an 18-month long mission! I also am starting to get into geneology work. It blends my love of history with my love of this gospel. Who could ask for anything more?
