Hi I'm Jody

I grew up as a 'tom-boy', raised with a healthy sense of humor, am a wife, mom, nana, love the out-of-doors and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fourth girl and the youngest in a family of five. We lived with the beautiful Rocky Mountains in our picture window and although it is now a suburb setting, it used to be rural, open and free for the taking. Education was paramount in our family, but the "love bug" hit in my first year of college and we were married. I graduated in Education with my 2 1/2 year old in attendance at commencement. Adding two other children and moving around the country while my husband went to school made for an adventure and many, many treasured friends. I was able to teach school to help things along a bit. I still have a passion for teaching. We have raised our three children to adulthood, college degrees, marriage to three great companions, and have ten of the most wonderful grandchildren ever. Attending their school events and games makes for a busy and full life, but what a great life. The desert Southwest has been home for 30+ years and although we still miss the mountains, we don't miss shoveling snow!

Why I am a Mormon

My heritage goes back to the time of the Prophet Joseph Smith with deep roots and pioneer grit as they crossed the plains and established home in the west. That said, I still had to go through a personal process to receive a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and remain a member of the Church. As a teenager, I was able to live out of the country where there were not very many members and where the beliefs of the Church were under constant scrutiny. Gratefully, I prayed for strength and understanding that would give me a testimony while making it possible to stand and remain faithful. There have been very special and tender times in my life that have made it clear that I have a Father in Heaven who knows me personally and loves me, who has given me challenges and the strength to meet them head on. Two of our three children and my husband have been spared death. Through these times, the love of the Savior, Jesus Christ, the love and support of the members of the Church and my testimony of the truthfulness of this Church has been the stabilizing force. I cannot imagine going through these experiences without it.

How I live my faith

I have had the privilege of working with all ages in the Church. The majority of the time, I have either taught or advised the youth (12-18) or young adults (18-30) of the Church. They are bright and inquisitive which makes teaching them a joy. Playing with them at their activities has been a blast! Currently, I am teaching a Sunday School class of adults. Our discussions are stimulating and insightful as we come to understand the principles and doctrines of the Gospel. They keep me on my toes to study more. Most days there is a time I set aside to study. Music has always been a central focus of my life. I have led choirs for more years than I am willing to admit. There is nothing that can touch the heart more than good music. An anonymous quote I have, says, "Next to the word of God, music deserves the highest praise." I play the piano and organ in Church settings which has always been a delight. Service to my family and in the Church, to individuals and families, brings the greatest joy to my life.
