Hi I'm Mark

I'm married to my first wife, we have three grown kids, three grandkids, I am a private pilot and most of all, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a very contented husband, father and grandfather! Professionally speaking, I was a non-practicing CPA for 22 years working for a large multi-national corporation in the Seattle area. My last significant assignment with that company allowed me and my family to live in Tokyo, Japan for more than five years. For fun, I like to fly airplanes (I had a Cessna 206 for nine years), play golf, travel with my wife and just spend time with her, my kids (two boys and a girl) and their spouses and my grand children.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I was born to parents who were members of the church, when I was a teen, I determined to learn for myself if the church was true or not. I simply took up the challenge offered in Moroni 10:3-5 to read The Book of Mormon and plead with the Lord to let me know if it were true or not, believing that he could do so. My testimony of this sacred book did not come immediately. In fact, it came while I was reading it a second time. I know it is a second (after the bible) testament of the divinity of Jesus Christ, our savior. This is important information to me. It guides my decision making in life. As a result, I plainly see the fruits of obeying His commandments in the lives of my family. I am not perfect and my family faces the same challenges others do. However, I know if I correct errant behaviors and seek the help of the Lord, he will forgive my foibles and make me stronger as a result.

How I live my faith

In deference to the covenants I have made with the Lord, I have sought ways to serve Him by serving others. As a result, I have served in the church as a full-time missionary for two years, a teacher, Scout Master, home teacher and various leadership positions in the Priesthood. Currently, I serve as Sunday School President in the Gig Harbor, WA ward. All of these callings require prayerful preparation and time. I love serving in the church and know my family and I have grown spiritually by diligently trying to magnify the duties each calling requires. In addition to serving in the church, I strive to volunteer my time and talents in the communities I live in. I have helped to rehabilitate parks and trails in the U.S. While in Japan, I volunteered time to teach English to students and adults. I donate money to various charities too. The March of Dimes is a favorite, but I help with local food banks, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts of America and others. On a personal level, I have helped countless families and individuals in moving.
