Hi I'm Matt

I've lived from coast to coast in the USA. I love college football, Ultimate Frisbee, but above all, I love God. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family. My family consists of my mom and dad and four children - I'm the youngest child, and the only son. When I was born the doctor said that I have four mothers. They certainly raised me well by helping me learn the things I need to know. We've lived in a few states since I was born due to my dad changing jobs or getting promotions. Some of my interests make me sound like a stereotypical man - I love cars, I love watching college football, and I love playing many different sports. I also enjoy reading a wide variety of books, including Shakespeare, Harry Potter, C.S. Lewis novels, and self-improvement or skill development books. I just graduated this year from an undergraduate business program, with an emphasis in organizational behavior and human resources. I enjoy teaching, training, and helping people develop their abilities to become even better than they are already. I tend to be quite optimistic about most things that happen in life, and I try to never complain - especially about the things I know I don't have control over.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have grown up learning about Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. The stories of Jesus' life as well as the Restoration, Joseph Smith, and the history of our religion are as familiar to me as any book or movie that I know. However, as I have grown up I have realized that just hearing the stories constantly is not sufficient for anyone. The gospel of Jesus Christ is meant to be a path of life that enables us to become like our Savior. This requires that each person - even me, who has grown up hearing about these teachings my whole life - become truly converted to the gospel. I cannot pinpoint a moment when I went from not knowing that this is the true church of Christ to knowing it. However, I have had many experiences that have given me an ever stronger testimony that the church and gospel of Jesus Christ truly have been restored through Joseph Smith. I know that the authority that Joseph received as he was called to be a prophet has been passed on to our day and that Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet of God on the earth today. One of the greatest aspects of all truth is that anyone can go to the Lord to receive confirmation of it. That is what I have done, and I have received a witness from the Spirit of God of many things. The Spirit has witnessed to my spirit that I am a child of God, that He loves me enough to have sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for me, and that even though I have sinned many times and struggled with weaknesses, I will certainly be able to overcome all things through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know these things to be true, and I would rather give my life than deny the things that I know. What God has witnessed to me, no man can make me disbelieve or deny.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by working each day to follow the counsel given in a song I learned as a child: "I'm trying to be like Jesus, I'm following in His way. I'm trying to live as He did in all that I do and say. At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice, but I try to listen as the still, small voice whispers: Love one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do. Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, for these are the things Jesus taught." I don't always do everything that God desires of me. If I did, I would be perfect. Although Jesus commanded us to be perfect, and has provided the way through His Atonement, He is very merciful and loving as we sincerely repent of our sins when we slip up along the way. I live my faith by trying to listen to the Spirit of God, and trusting that God knows what is best for me to a much higher degree than I do. A few months after my college graduation, a lot of changes happened in my life in rapid succession. I knew that I needed to find a new job, but wasn't sure exactly where to look. I began searching anywhere and everywhere, and then went to the Lord for guidance. The clear, distinct answer I received was one that I never expected - that I needed to be looking in Boston. I had never even considered living in Boston before that moment. When an answer to prayer comes to you that distinctly, you need to act on it. I focused my job search to the Boston area, started making plans, and relied on my savings and some wonderful support from my parents to make the move out here, even though I hadn't been able to line up a job or even any interviews yet. I knew that the Lord wanted me here, so I figured why not come as soon as I could? After a month of searching after arrival in Boston and meeting with many staffing agencies, I recently found a temp-to-permanent position! The Lord truly blesses us when we trust in Him. I know He will continue revealing to me more and more about why He told me to come here.
