Hi I'm Kylie

I'm an American pre-med student studying in Austria. I'm a skier, a climber and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

During high school I was able to participate in a foreign exchange program to China and whether I liked it or not, I had been bitten by the travel bug and was never going back. Now I'm studying abroad in Europe and absolutely love everything about it. I want to go to Medical School to study either epidemiology or anesthesiology. I'm looking forward to some day getting married in the Temple and having a family of my own. I'm an avid adventurer and love rock climbing, skiing, canyoneering, hiking and most importantly, getting lost. I love pushing myself outside my comfort zone and trying new things! Whether its a new recipe, a different style of music or a new language. I love being a student and am happy constantly learning.

Why I am a Mormon

I was always on the doubting side when trying to understand the gospel, even though I grew up hearing it and learning about it all the time. I just couldn't wrap my head around it. So I finally got down on my knees and prayed about the Book of Mormon and the Church. Immediately all doubt was cast from my mind and I felt perfectly at peace. I knew the gospel to be true. A couple years later the doubt had started to creep back into my mind again. I prayed again to know if the church was true and instead read D&C 6:23 "Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?" I have never doubted since. These experiences, and many others, have shown me how much my Heavenly Father loves me personally. He knows my every thought, my every feeling and He sincerely and dearly cares about my happiness and well-being. I know my life is blessed when I live the commandments of God. I see it happening every day. And even though life gets rough or I feel alone I can always turn towards the Lord and he will help me. Even if I sometimes feel like I don't deserve His help, He is always there for me.

How I live my faith

I have played piano since I was 5 but never took the time to learn any church hymns, until this past year when I was asked to play in meetings on Sunday. What an amazing experience that has been! I have drastically improved in piano and I know I could not have done it without the Lord helping me every week. Now I feel like I can actively participate and contribute each week at church and I know I have greatly benefited from my new-found skills as a pianist.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

The gospel of Jesus Christ has been on the Earth for a relatively short time compared to the history of people on this Earth. Therefore not everyone had the chance to hear the gospel or teachings it contains. It is our duty to give everyone the opportunity to accept those principles, in this life or the next. We perform baptisms for the dead to make sure that those who have passed on have the needed ordinances to accept the gospel. This does not mean that they would have to accept it, but if they do chose it, it is already available to them. Ordinances go hand in hand with the acceptance of doctrine, and ordinances are needed to be exalted after the resurrection. Show more Show less
