Hi I'm Shannon

I am a working mother with 4 daughters (3 of whom are grown). I was an Air Force wife for 20 years and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in California but my family moved many times during my childhood. I lived in Japan, HI, CA, WA, ID, and AZ as a child. I attended many different schools before I graduated high school. After I was married, my husband and I lived in AZ, UT, MS, IL, and WA thanks to the Air Force. I spent 20 years supporting my husband while he served in the military. During that time we had four daughters. We also had a stillborn son and mis-carried twins. I am grateful for my daughters who are my pride and joy. Two of them have started their own lives and the other two are still at home. My oldest daughter served a mission in Brazil. My husband and I have now been married for 26 years and are looking forward to at least that many more. Currently, I am an office manager for a small property management firm and I love what I do. In my spare time I sew, make cards (mostly Christmas), read, cross stitch and knit. I cherish the vacations we took as a family when our children were younger to the national parks that were near to wherever we were living. Our favorite places to visit continue to be Glacier National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. I love to be out in nature with my family viewing Heavenly Father's creations. The Lord has blessed my family in many ways and I am grateful for that as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church. Like many young people I relied on my parents for my testimony. When I was 16 I started dating a young man who was not a member of the church. After we had been dating for a while, he joined a church that had an unfavorable view of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He decided that he needed to show me just how wrong the LDS church was. We had many discussions and he brought up many points that his religious leaders had told him. I used his own scriptures alongside the Book of Mormon to study for the answers to his questions. In doing so, I found my own testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel. Since then I have never doubted. I know with all my heart that Jesus is my Savior. I know that through His atonement I can be reunited with my family. I know that the Savior loves me and watches out for me. Heavenly Father answer's my prayers and those of my family. He knows what is best for me and answers my prayers in the way that is right for me. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ restored the fullness of the Gospel through Joseph Smith. I am grateful for the priesthood that has blessed my family in so many ways. I know that my Heavenly Father directed my family's path to Arizona where I met my husband. Together, with the help of our Heavenly Father, he and I have weathered many difficulties. Despite the loss of three children, I know that my Father in Heaven has a plan for me. Because of the Plan of Salvation, I will be reunited with the precious spirits. This knowledge allows me to move forward and not be angry or bitter about the loss. I cannot imagine a life without the promise eternal life with my family. I know that continued faith in the Savior will bring about many promised blessings. I love my Savior and my Father in Heaven and thank them for all the wonderful blessings I have already received in my life and look forward to many more blessings that I know they have planned for me.

How I live my faith

Through the years I have served my different wards in many capacities. As a teenager I served as a music leader in my youth group as well as served in the nursery with the very young children. As an adult I have served as a children's teacher with all different ages from 3 - 12. I also served as a nursery leader with the 18 month - 3 year olds. I loved working with the children helping them to learn about their Heavenly Father and his love for them. I have also served as a leader and teacher in the youth groups for the young women aged 12 - 18. This was a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to touch the lives of these beautiful girls as they approach adulthood. I served on various commitees on many different levels throughout the many places we have lived, including the scout committee where we helped the boy scouts acheive their goals as well as the public relations committee for our area. I served as the secretary for the women's group when I was a young mother with small children. I have also served on the public relations committee as well as served as the local activities chairperson where we planned many uplifting and fun activities for all ages. I have also served in my community beginning as a junior volunteer at a local hospital while still in high school. As an adult I have assisted with raising funds for breast cancer awareness, the Make-a-Wish foundation, Special Olympics and domestic violence shelters among others. These organizations serve so many in need and I appreciate the chance to assist when I can.
