Hi I'm Janet

I am have taught English in China, done a dig in Israel, love to read the Bible in Hebrew. I'm Mormon.

About Me

I have been happily married for 48 years, have 6 children and 8 grandchildren who are a great source of joy. I love to travel, and have been to many countries. Participating in an archaeological dig in Israel, and Teaching English along with my husband, in China have been highlights in my life. I love reading, and have a home full of books. Searching for truth wherever it can be found has been a driving force in my life. Our family has had it's share of challenges, such as serious illness and financial problems over the years, but looking back I can see the merciful hand of the Lord in guiding, comforting and blessing us with his tender mercies. As our children were growing up, we shared our home with many others. We had a foster daughter who is Native American, and another foster daughter from a troubled family. In addition we had many who were friends of our children who needed a place to live, some short term and others for a year or too. Each one taught our family something about life, and helped us to feel we were able to serve the Lord through serving his children. One of the things that our family loves to do is sit around and have conversations together. It is so fun to be talking one minute about spiritual things, and the next minute about current events in the world, and the next, just laughing together about funny memories we have shared.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. I was baptized when I was eight years old. Although I believe the teachings of the Church, I sought to know for myself if the church was true. I have studied other religions on my own and in university classes. I believe that there are good people and truth in all religions, but as I have studied my testimony has been strengthened in my testimony that the Mormon Church is the true Restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I have felt the burning witness of the spirit that the Book of Mormon is a holy book, as is the Bible, and that it testifies of the Lord Jesus Christ with power and has brought me closer to him. I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints for a lifetime, and everything I have seen, heard and experienced has confirmed to me that my Savior is the head of the Church and that he guides it through his prophet, apostles and other church leaders. Jesus said, "by their fruits ye shall know them . While members of the church are not perfect, and are each struggling to become better people, they are kind, and loving and reach out to serve people both in and out of the church. Our humanitarian outreach has blessed many of the poor and needy all over the world. Jesus said, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" Because of the teachings of the gospel, and the love that surrounds me as I Know this is the Lord's Church. The spirit has born witness to me many times, and I can testify with conviction that the things I have been taught are true.

How I live my faith

I have enjoyed the different opportunities to serve in the Church. I have always been shy, but through opportunities to teach children, teenagers, and adults in Sunday School and other organizations, and to hold leadership positions, I have grown in love for others, and self-confidence has grown. For two years I taught teenagers every morning before school. We studied the New Testament one year and the Book of Mormon another. I have taught the Gospel Doctrine class to the adults in the ward , and served as the leader of our women's organization, the Relief Society. These experiences, and many others helped me grow in love for others, and in self confidence. Currently my husband and I are teaching the 8 year olds together on Sunday mornings. Each calling has helped me to grow, and has given me a chance to help and serve others. I have found great joy in serving. I believe that each new calling was inspired by the Lord. I often felt inadequate, but accepted each call with faith that the Lord would help me and the other members of the Church would give me their love and support. Our church is not one where I just go for an hour and listen to a sermon. It is a way of life, and it is a life full of happiness.
